Gun Dog Challenge
I just competed in my first gun dog trial ever this past weekend. I knew we'd do fair, but to my surprise, we took the whole thing coming in first place in the flusher category.
The gun dog trial is an event where it's a hunter/dog team event. 3 birds (quail in this case) planted, timed event of 25 mins to find 3 birds, dog to make contact, either point or flush, hunter must shoot bird and retrieve to hand. You get 2 shells per bird. Dogs are scored on relationship to hunter, contact, and retrieve. You also get credit for shotshells not used and time not used. I'm sure you've all seen my videos of Charleigh and can see she's a close but fast hunter. It really showed as my little girl had her 3 contacts in about 3 mins! We had a lot of fun, but it sure was over quick. Who knows, I may get an invite to the top dog of the year event... we'll see but I'm not holding my breath

Petey,
Congradulations! My last grouse dog was a Golden and we did ok on PA grouse. Webley is gone and so are most of the grouse. My current dog is a 50-pound constant companion, and she likes to hunt everything. Adam
