Post Personal Property ID techniques I use

Protect your personal items. (guns horns pouches and other items. I use code decorations. On my horns I put single and double digit numbers into pictures, For map horns along the rivers, which I explain as depth or width markings. Start at the left edge of the map and work right moving up and down on the map, or tip to bung. Example 123-45-6789 placed as 12 3 45 6 78 9 or code as lettering as a makers signature or number around the bung end, your name Wm. Abraham gets listed as 23,13/1.2.18.1.8.1.13, You can make a design and place it into the work. If a horn is taken, the perp isn't going to rescrape it and rescrim it. For guns you can use permanent marking pens and put some ID markings in the barrel channel or scratched on the bottom of the barrel. I also put a return address label on the wood under the butt plate. I also engrave using the same techniques as the scrimshaw. You can find someway to mark your personal property for identification. I also use these methods on modern equipment.

That truly is a great idea. I should mark all of mine in such a manner I do keep all serial numbers of guns etc. But only use ID marks on more valuable things

Thumbs up Stolen gun ID trick.

Another trick I use to ID my guns is that I remove the butt plate; drill a 1/2" hole, 2"deep into the center of the butt stock area. I insert a return address label (I stick to a Kleenex, remove to remove sticky residue) rolled a little and inserted into hole, and replace butt plate. If gun is stolen and found you can ID buy asking authorities to remove butt plate and they'll find your address label in the butt. You can also place one in the barrel channel.
