I'm a real estate broker (Realtor) in Reno/Sparks. I've been trying to get TreeDoc to move here before the "big one" shakes Kalifornia apart. Soon I'll be selling beach front property in Nevada. Maybe even Rocky will make the move. Just think, deep sea fishing and hunting right out your back door.

I am currently a punching bag for drunken frat boys, "babysitter" for spoiled collage kids that can only use their parent credit card withought assistance, Im also a "sheepdog". Basicly I work security for gated communities in a Collage town, that exells in "hardcore partying".
Sometimes I get a chance to break away, and be a real professional security officer. That means I sometimes get a chance to use my class G license (Armed Security). The pay isnt what I think it should be. But, You have to be preity jaded to say its a dull job!! ![]() Im in the prosess of changing jobs, where I can get some daytime work hours. So I can finish school, myself! Im going to try Phlebotomy (sticking needles into peoples veins).

Job
After bouncing around for a few years, I found my professional monitary calling... Home Inspector.
I do okay with pay, and with everyone moving into Albuquerque, NM, work is picking up. Although, I must admit, I am trying to get my 10 year old son jaded early. I tell him that for a job, he needs to find something that he's good at that pays well so that he can do the things that he enjoys on the weekends... Not sure if the advice is taking, but I hope our weekend hiking, scouting, and camping trips help the cause.

RASteele,
The better advice is for him to find something that he ENJOYS to do and can get paid for it because he will be doing it 5 days a week. Me, I have days when I really like my job and others when I don't. Today is one of the days I don't like it because I have two criminal cases. I was in Court in DC and watched some guy get locked up for a year because he violated probation, and his mother was there at the same time trying to get a restraining order for a year's time. It was really sad, and I almost wanted to cry. Of course, the mother didn't need the protective order with him in jail for a year. Meanwhile, my client who is in trouble for domestic violence is baulking about attending a 22 week, 1 hour a week domestic violence program because it costs $20 per week. My client this afternoon is crying because the only way he can keep his driver's license after refusing a breathalyzer is to sign up for an ignition interlock device, but he doesn't want to pay $50 to have it installed and $65 a month thereafter. Instead, he told me that he is just going to drive illegally. Told him that he would be in a world of hurt if he gets caught because it will violate his probation on the DUI and his license would be revoked for 6 months instead of merely suspended for 4 months. These thing just do not phase these guys. Sometimes, I wish I were a hunting or fishing guide, or maybe a shooting instructor.

Wow, that bites! A rough day in court stinks, I know. Unfortunately, though, you kinda illustraited my point. Very few of us will ever get paid to do the things that we enjoy. Yeah, I would love to work as a Shooting Instructor, or be able to pay my bills and have a good life working as a Land Manager on some farm, but the truth is that we would starve if I held out for a job like that. That is why I want him to know what the real world is like early on. I want him to find his happiness, but also be realistic in his approach to what that would entail. Yeah, my wife and I enjoy our jobs, but they do not reflect who we are and what we do as individuals. Honestly, I hope he can find something that he loves doing and that pays well. That would make me happier than a lark! But the truth is that the odds are against it and I don't want to see him disappointed if it turns out that can't do what he loves for a career. On a lighter note, speaking of courts and bonds, did you read / hear about Dog The Bounty Hunter, his son Leiland (sp?), and Dog's brother ('Youngblood') being arrested? ... For "Failure To Appear"?!? I almost shat myself I laughed so hard!

Hadn't heard about that, and barely know who those people are because I rarely watch TV, but I know enough to know that is quite ironic. I wonder how their show is doing? What would have been really ironic is to have filmed some bounty hunters bringing them in. That could have been a spinoff of another bounty hunter series, kind of like how we have three CSI's (e.g., Las Vegas, Miami, and New York). TV kills me.

Werk...a 4 letter word
Hey Fabs.. You know I have done the guiding thing...for a lot of years. Did the fishing guide thig a little bit too. Have done quite a bit of shooting instruction in the last few years. Teaching 2 women out here in Wy now.. After doing it for money for a while..it just turns into another job. Seriously... and ya get to the point that you don't want to get up and go in the morning. Guided waterfowl hunters for 33 yrs. Can't figure out why...sometimes! But I did get to hunt some really great places(and some terrible ones) shot an awful lot of birds and met some really nice people(and some really bad ones too). Of them all the shooting instructor thing is probably the most profitable of the bunch...per hour worked. Also makes ya feel good when they follow the instructions and it all works...just the way you told them(they still don't believe it) it would. I tell the ladies that when it all comes together..it feels just like magic...and for some of them..it really is.
BTW there is no way I could be an attorney(thats a lawyer for all us commoners)
