ST Axis Arrows..Whos Shooting Them???
I have been pondering getting new arrows. I currently shoot BlackHawk Vapors ACA arrows. I was down to 2 arrows so I decided to go get a few new arrows. I have heard good stuff from the bow technician at the bow shop in San Marcos TX and he uses the Easton ST Axis arrows. I went ahead and got 8 of them cut and 100 grain field points put into them. I shot a few and paper tuned my bow and sighted it in. I was wondering what they were shooting (fps??) so I shot 3 threw the chrono there and they were at 260 fps. My other arrows were shooting 267 fps and they had feathers and were the same length. The new arrows have vanes. I wasn't sure why the loss in fps until I weighed the 2 different arrows. The BlackHawk Vapors were 273 grains on the scale and the ST Axis were 305 grains on the scale(without field points)
Will this weight difference make me lose that many fps?? And do any of you use the ST Axis and have you shot any game with them?? Thanks in advance |

For the 7fps difference in speed, that could be the difference in weight. that difference is nothing to worry about though.. you wouldn't notice it in your sights.

Definately the increased arrow weight slowing them down.
I agree with toxic, 7fps is nothing. If I'm understanding you correctly your original arrows total weight is 373 and 267fps. The new arrows are 405 and 260fps. If that is correct, the new arrows have a bit more than 1 ft lbs of KE more than the old arrows. Both combinations put you in the 60 ft lbs area, which is plenty for anything other than grizzlies and elepehants. I'd be interested in hearing more about how those arrows shoot and group. |

They seem to shoot very well. I shot some just a couple of hours ago and they group great. I tweeked my bow a little more and adjusted my rest and it shoots perfect bullet holes through paper and the arrows really fly straight down range. The guy at the shop said they have great penatration on game . He has shot a couple of 150# to 200# hogs and has had pass throughs on both.
I usually dont shoot more than 1 arrow at the same target at 20 yards unless I'm sighting in..Well I now remember why I broke one of the knocks off. I like to sight my bow in for 22 yards and I only use "1" sight pin. I only shoot out to 30 yards at the most (25 yards is my comfortable limit)and thats usually only at varments or maybe cull bucks or does. The 3 shot groups were slapping each other at 20 yards. After I got my sights readjusted I started shooting at 25 yards at different bullseyes on the "Block" and the arrows shot better than my Vapors. Maybe it is the extra weight?? I'm not sure but I will be shooting my 100 gr. Muzzys tomorrow to see how they differ(if any at all) from the field points. I have been invited on a hog hunt Thursday evening /night and I need to get comfortable with these new arrows. I have had this PSE Durango for about 3 years so I am very comfortable with the bow and can really group them in there with this bow. I hope to have a good story and some pics to follow by the end of this week. I will keep ya'll posted on the new arrows and how well they work..Adios' |

Let us know about those arrows, Hank. I understand they are very tough. I'm considering them after I change my cams out on my Cybertec. It's either those or the Carbon Tech Rhinos. I'm looking for a arrow tough enough for elk next fall.

ive been using the Axis shafts since March. they are by far the toughest carbon shaft i have ever shot. out of the dozen i originally bought i have only broken one and that was on a steel target. it didnt shatter like a regular carbon shaft would have. it only splintered about the first 3/4 of an inch near the tip. all of the other carbons that i have ever shot would of exploded. id highly recommend these shafts.

Seem like a good arrow for a bit,Until you hit anything somewhat solid and the end's of the shaft begin to splinter 4 of the 6 I bought are ruined. Not to impressed with durability of these arrows.

St. Axis Arrows
I have been shooting the St. Axis aroow for some time now and like them very much. I have made a change, I have refleatched my arrows with the Blazer vane. I have increased my arrow speed up by 4 fps. That is not a whole lot cosidering. The only thing I do not like is they are very hard to pull out of 3-D targets and some others. I have also creasted a couple of my hunting arrows due to they are hard to see in low light conditions.
