Types of tree stands make any difference?

Do any of you have better results getting deer with a regular tree stand than a ladder stand?

well it kinda depends, can you hike that ladder stand in as quick and move it as quick as a climber? from what i have hunted out of climbers have been more comfortable than ladder stands. And you can get higher

Lightweight climbers seem the best to me. Portability and versatility.

If I owned the land I was hunting on I would certainly have a few well placed ladder stands. I would be able to choose locations that can offer some concealment.
Since I don't own the land, and often hunt in areas in which the trees offer little cover, height is my best advantage. In this case I find climbers to work best.

I think the advantage of a climber is that you can get into places that havn't been hunted. You can move to places as the deer change habits, which can be important in farm country. I think the advantage of a ladder stand is that it can be set up on a good trail/trails and left there. When it comes time to hunt it's alot less work to getting into the spot and setting up all the while remaining quiet. Ladder stands and hang ons get the advantage on the edges of fields also where alot of times theres not a suitable tree to climb. I do however prefer ladder stands that are 20ft. Especially for bow hunting. Hunters ridge makes some nice stands that are 15ft. You can buy a 5 ft extension for them thats less than $30.

Actually I've found that the most productive stands that I've
ever used are perminent home made stands. Granted they
are not an option other than on your own land or land where
the owner gives permission to build them.

A stand that hangs there year round has a big advantage. The
deer pass it every day. It's part of the scenery. I've made
several out of old pallets that they pile up behind the supremarket

I favor ladder stands. Where I hunt, the stands stay up until the season ends. We take them all down, refurbish them, and a month or so before the next season, they go back in the woods. I do not like climbers myself, but I know many guys that use them.

I do most of my hunting on the ground though, stalking or still hunting.

I have found that deer do not notice less obvious stands bein that they do not know that they are in the area
I have found the ladder stands to be obvious than clamp on stands because most ladder stands do not get high enough of the ground and the also stick out like a soar thumb
The clamp on stands can be put as far up a tree as you want and the pegs used to climb up do not stand out like a ladder

I modified my ladder stand and took a wagon (liltte red wagon), and took the axle and wheels off of it and drilled holes in the frame of the ladder and now i don`t have to pack it in, I wheel it in.

I perfer my climber also, as long as they're straight trees, you're all set. I like to be at least 20+ft. I dunno why, just do. I don't have much deer that spook vs when I use to have stands that where 10-15ft.

I am a big guy,.......So usually anywhere from 12 to 16 ft is my max ht.

Lots of climber fans here - but to answer your question, first, what do you mean by a "regular" tree stand? Lock-On? Climber? Plywood box? Anyhooo, I have a Loggy, love it dearly, but I cant count how many times Ive been busted on that bare tree even at 20+ feet.

Ladder stands are about the same, you protrude way to far from the object your trying to become.

My solution was a Lone Wolf Lock-On and Climbing Sticks (get the extra 3ft extension). You have a TCW of about 20 couple pounds total but Ive compared the speed of this setup to that of a climber and there isnt much difference at all, plus you can lock that puppy to the tree if ya plan on huntin more than a day; tree selection is no longer an issue with this setup and we all know concealmeant is everything. Another plus is the climbing sticks actually attach to the stand when being transported - very silent, flawless system if I might say so. A bit pricy but it'll be your favorite!

all i use is my climber. ladder stands are too big.(wood stands aint safe.they rot in 2 or 3 years so they aint reliabe like a steel or aluminum stand.)i also have a loggy but want a summit bullet. it folds flat for easy transport and quietly sets up in a flash.ladder stands are too much of a hassle and i cant git high enough ( i go at least 25 ft or more )and they aint as portable, though they are safe.

I was flippin through the cabelas archery catalog lookin at the stand when I noticed the Travelling Starr by North Starr treestands and I remembered this post. The ladder straps to the trunk of the tree, so it doesn't stick out. It seems to me like its the same idea as a hang-on with stacking sticks. Seemed like a better alternative than other ladder stands. Only thing was it seemed a bit too pricey.
