Brit,
You posted some pictures of deer you killed in England last year, I believe, that were very small deer. Not much bigger than a big jackrabbit, from what I could tell (and remember

).

I watched a TV show not long ago, where they were hunting in England with shotguns, 4buck I believe, and they had people driving these little deer like pheasants. One came running out, kinda like a big rabbit and this guy rolls it. It looked to me alot like the pics you posted.

What are these deer? I have never before seen or heard anything about them.....

Edit: After I posted that, I saw the Roe Deer photos and post below. Maybe that is what I remembered you posting??

Hi Andy,

Now the Deer you are thinking of are Muntjac Deer, they weigh about 20lbs and stand about 18" high. Now shotguns are only legal for certaind reasons to kill Deer. What that program shows sounds very dodgy to me. If there is a lot of crop damage a land holder can use a shotgun to control Deer but you have to use certain size shot and I believe a permit from DEFRA (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs) is required.

As you can see thay are small, size does not matter in our law they are still Deer and so covered by "The Deer Act"

Sorry, but I was way, way off.... Those were the pics I was thinking of, but not the same animal on the show. Hell, I was on the wrong continent even.

Blue Dykier (sp?), thats what they were showing.

Those are cool little deer you got there though.

Maybe sometime when you come back to North Missouri, we could get together for a hunt. I hunt not far from you. Also could possibly get in a coyote call or two if you got the time and desire....

Hi Andy,

Hmm I should have mentioned that these Munjac originate form India & Asia. There being a couple of species of them, we have Reeves Muntjac here.

Yes I also hunt Roe and the Muntjac are about half the size of a Roe. Here is my last Roe Doe shot just before Christmas :-

Now it looks like I will hunting Red Stag this Rut, late September in Scotland and am sorting out the details just now. Finally found a place that I can afford.

If things work out right I amy be back in Missouri this fall, however that's in flux just now as I got laid off last week so need to find some more work to pay for all of this

Oh and I have yet to see a live Coyote or even hear them at night, I did expect to do so in Sullivan County in 2003 but it didn't happen

So just now it's a wait and see game.

Hi 338winmag,

Well it looks like I will be going to South West Scotland, Galloway in fact. The last weekend in September the rut will only just be starting I am thinking, However the Roe Buck stalking should still be good and I intend to do a little of both. I have not yet shot a 6 point Buck so with a little luck I amy be able to come home with a Stag and a 6 point Roe.

For me the Stag will be the priority but a friend from the US is coming over and his is the Roe buck as he shot a nice Red Stag in Germany some years ago it seems although he has never been to Scotland. It should be a fine experience no matter how it comes out, I will be taking the digital camera plus a 35mm as well.

Now I just have to work out which rifle to use

Ahh so you are hunting along side Loch Tay, to you east is a small glen called Glen Quaich which has Loch freuchie in it, at the head of this len it joins the Sma Glen and there is a small hotel there called the Amurlee Hotel which used to do some really nice food. I understand it changed owners last year as I spoke to the new owners well Janice anyway last week whilst searching fro more information on Stalking up in that area. The road lead from the Eastern end of Loch tay winds up vert steeply and is a gated road into Glen Quaich, some five or so years ago we spent a lot of time in this area whilst on holiday. Just to your North west is Glen Lyon where the wildlife artist Allan B Hayman has his studio, I have one of his prints on my wall of a group of Red stags on the hill.

It's beautifull area indeed. I am glad to hear that you sorted the problem out with Diana, with their reputation I am somewhat surprised it happened in the first place.

If you are up by the Glen Lyon resevior then you are right by Allan's studio, it's if I remember correctly in the Old Post office in Glen Lyon which is down on the road to the dam. Very nice area with lot's of Deer as you well know. Just driving around I saw plenty of Deer, lots of Roe as well

Good luck on your stalking, a Royal would be wonderful
