Traded for a rifle with a Tasco Titan

Hi All,

Anyone know anything about these Tasco titan scopes and the reticle position marker? becasue.......................

On saturday afternoon I did a trade and got an Older Parker-Hale rifle in 30-06, on it is fitted a 30mm tubed Tasco Titan 3-9x42. On Sunday Morning I took it and another rifle fitted with a Leupold Vari X111 2.5-8 over to the wood to see how this new one compared and of course test fire the new aquistion. There was a slight frost and it was misty almost Foggy, down in the corner I spied the Fallow Deer. This is their ususal hang out but it's too far away for a shot, plus it's off the property so off limilts.

Well I was quite surprised as the Tasco seemed to be on a virtual equal to the Leupold and I would not even consider a Tasco normally, but as this was already fitted let's see what it's like.

Then my usual lousy luck showed up, someone has wound the windage all the way to the right and the Titan scope has a reticle position marker which now is jammed all the way to the right. The reticle moves as I put a Collimeter on it and watched whilst I moved the windage adjustment. The Mounts are either not fitted properly, or something is out of wack here. Back at home I took a collimeter reading then removed the scope, and tried shiming it to move the thing cemtral after winding the adjustment all the way to the left counting the clicks, then backing up half way. The rings had recoil studs in them which mate with the alloy bases. This front stud was stopping the ring moving over enough to line the reticle up, so I filed it off and added enough shim to line it up.

Hmm cannot get out to test it again till the weekend, so I phoned the shop and told them of the problem so they know and I will try it again on the weekend. I will also set up a second scope as I have a spare and a pair of these mounts so we can see if the scope is the problem or not. The rifle seems to want to be accurate, but until I know for sure I am keeping the options open. If the scope is OK and the rifle groups, then I will junk the mounts and fit decent steel QD ones. Probably Apel Roll Offs as I by chance have a set of Apel Roll off 30mm rings, I just need the bases

In my life time I`ve had afew Tasco scopes. I bought the first one and got all the rest in trades. Of all that I have had there was only 1 that stayed on a gun any lenth of time. It was a 6 X 24 power and it held zero well and maintained zero through the full power range. It did get so blurry at the high power settings that you could not shoot well with it, but up 16X it seemed to work well enough and since I rearly use over 9X that didn`t bother me too much. After acouple years though I just couldn`t stand it any more and replaced it with a Leupold 3 x 9.
