Two Tulare police officers shot during traffic stop
Tulare police arrested two Earlimart brothers several hours after the 3:05 a.m. police shooting, according to Lt. Jerry Breckinridge. Jesse Barbosa, 19, and his brother Jeffery, 18, ran from the shooting scene in the 2100 block of South Laspina Street, a quiet neighborhood of homes and apartments near the southeast fringe of the city. Investigators said the two officers, one a female training officer and the other a recent transfer from another department, pulled over the Barbosas' car for a traffic stop. As the female officer approached the driver's side of the car, she was hit by a shotgun blast, prompting the other officer to jump from the patrol car to help her. He shot one of the Barbosas in the upper torso but was shot himself. While the brothers ran west from the shooting scene, a police distress call was made with other officers responding. Officers from Visalia, Farmersville, the Tulare County Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol set up a perimeter and helped search for the suspects. About 6:25 a.m., one was found in the oleander bushes along the center divider on Highway 99. He was arrested and taken to Tulare District Hospital to receive treatment for a gunshot wound and police dog bites suffered during his arrest. The second man was arrested five minutes later near where his brother was found. http://www.bakersfieldonline.us/news/read/3/15203 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wonder if these two are Norteno or Sureno gangsters trying to make a name for themselves, coming off the Ceres shooting last week. The Officers who were shot are in critical condition.
