Portable bench

Does anyone know of any plans to build a portable reloading bench? I have only seen one portable bench for sale and didn't really like that one.

I guess all I need is a stand for the press. I don't really have the place to mount a press permanently so I was thinking about making something I could move out of the way easily. I understand it will have to built pretty stoutly and may even need weight added but any ideas about size and design would be appreciated.

Thumbs up Portable Bench

Check out one of the Black and Decker fold up work benches. I have one my wife bought at an auction for 2 dollars(gotta love her). It would be just right for putting a reloader etc on. Fold it up and put it in a closet...Called a Workmate or some such name. Works good for some woodworking projects too.

I use one of the cheaper Craftsman Tool chests on wheels. They have many verions, but the one I use is the $100 one. I added a piece of particle board to the recessed top. I store my powder, bullets, dies or whatever, in the pullout drawers. I'm not sure what you had in mind, but I've been using this set up for years and years.

I've used the Black and Decker work mate as a reloading bench before. Had my press mounted on a 3/4" piece of plywood and used c-clamps to hold it down. Not as good as a solid bench but it worked for me. BM

Email me and I will send you photos of my bench. I have made 7 of them so far. I load everything from .223 to 50BMG on it. It is all metal construction and I move it around the house to where I want to do my loading. Right now the wife is on me about it being in the middle of the living room. Oh well.....

Thanks for the idea woodchuckchucker... I have an old tool chest just like that. I was going to sell it to a friend but I now have a NEW use for it.I was going to get my buddy that owns a cabinet shop to build me a 3 door over head cabinet but I think that your idea is a lot better(and cheaper since I already own the chest). I already have a reloading bench that is built out of 1 1/8" plywood and have an oak cabinet above it for all my powders and such.

There's a local outdoor range that i go to everyonc ein awhile.

last summer a guy was there with a workmate turned reloading bench. He also had a portable battery pack, so he could use electric stuff with it as well.

Looked really good, and has me thinking
