405 GRAINER (!!) .45 Colt loads
Howdy, all.
Just did another bullet run to Laredo Bullets of Tempe, AZ and discussed "oddball" loadings of cartridges with Larry C. (such as Rocky's thing about either 3.5 of B'eye or 5.0 Unique in a .45 Colt with 2 round lead balls...or my twist on that where the front ball gets swapped out for a 155 grain target SWC with a charge of 4.8 of Unique...) Most of you are familiar with the concept of loading a 300 grainer in .45 Colt. (I like 8.1 grains of Blue Dot, myself...*) Back in the early 1980's, that was an eyebrow-raiser in some circles. Well, Larry C. has taken it...One Step Beyond. He has managed to roll off some 405 grainer loads in .45 "Long" Colt. This was not easy. First, he had to size down the RNFP's to 0.454" from 0.458". THEN: even with cast leads, he had to full-length size the loaded rounds, they tended to bulge out a bit towards the base of the projo...  He managed to fire these behemoths, and still has a face, both eyes and all fingers & thumbs.  Revolver used was a Ruger Blackhawk, BTW!  I did NOT ask of Larry which powder and what charge weight he used in this Handloaded "Thing That Should Not Be", but he did mention "Titegroup." FWTW! At any rate, the 2 pistolero handloaders locally whose loads I would absolutely trust would be Larry C, and Bob Shell (you may have heard of him!) {Besides "rocket scientist"** Spike-1's and my own, that is  }Anyhoo, just thought I'd bring this up, open the floor for debate about super-heavy projos, and additional Words Of Caution... . . . * I usually stick with CAS data in .45 Colt, and 185-200 grainers give ME the best accuracy in my sixgun, & 240 grainers in .45 Schofield for derringers. FWIW. **Technically, he's an Engineer working for an Aeronautics firm, but since he has worked on some NASA stuff, he's practically a Rocket Scientist to me!

I load 520 grain .45 caliber muzzleloader lead bullets from super slug in .45 colt and .454 casull revolvers for buddies who hunt and fish alaska with br. bears wondering about. The bullet is the same lenght as the colt brass. Would have to look the charge up, but i think it`s lil`gun.
