Humidity and Accuracy???

I was asked a question on another forum on another board that got my curiosity up. I shot my 22 Hornet the other day while it was drizzling intermitently and this is what a guy told me at the range:

The target shooter at the range told me that 22 Hornets (I guess because of their small size??) are affected by the moisture quite a bit?? Don't know if that is true but he seemed to be a pretty honest and knowledgeable guy..

Any input or thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.Adios'

Good question. I don't really know, but it would seem that high humidity increases the density of the air and therefore the drag. Bullets with low Ballistic Coefficients would be affected most.

Drizzling is more than just humidity, however. Now we're talking actual droplets of water.

At short range it won't make a whole lot of difference. (100yds)
But at longer ranges it definately makes plays a part. Get a copy
of the Marine or Army Sniper Manuals. They will provide some
very interesting info.

It's nonsense to say that the Hornet is affected because of the size of the cartridge. The only effect might be on the flying bullet - and that has nothing whatever to do with what launched it.

The only possible exception would be the humidity present when the round was loaded. High or low humidity can have a slight effect on powder, but if the assembled round is anywhere near sealed, the humidity at the time of firing would be moot until the bullet cleared the barrel.

Humidity has a big affect/effect on all my rifles.

When I was in Louisiana humidity was 96% most days - too hot to shoot. Stayed in and watched the discovery channel or went down to the Quarter.

In idaho when humidty is high that means its raining. No discovery channel, no French Quarter, no nothing.

So I hassel folkes like you guys.

Actually never noticed any difference in anything in high humidity or rain 222 BR shooting. Always wondered about that. Ya gotta hit a rain drop once in a while. But 100 and 200 yds is pretty short distance to get any measureable data for all the better I shoot.

Thanks for the replies. My reloading room is in the back of my garage. It is a 8'x9' room that has central heat/ac so it is just like the inside of my main house. Thanks again for the input
