Sitka

I talked with an outfitter at an outdoor show and am leaning toward booking a trip with him but since I have never been to Alaska I would appreciate some pros and cons from those who know. The trip will be first week of Nov. He is based in Sitka. We will be staying on his boat (44 ft) and waterfowl hunting, fishing, crabbing, and shrimping.

My best guess is the weather could be nasty. I think AK Nimrod will answer this better than me.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to go to SE in November, of course unless you like rain, lots of rain with a little snow mixed in from time to time. lol With a 44 foot vessel, your captain will do fine, if he knows anything about SE. You'll probably spend most of your time anchored in some protected bay shooting waterfoul, and running crab and shrimp pots. November is also a good time of year for blacktail hunting. Late in the month was my favorite time for blacktail in SE. November is not the idea time for a fishing trip, but I don't have a doubt that you will catch something out there.

Good luck on your trip rubicon. Dress warm and enjoy yourself.

FIRST WEEK OF NOV WILL BE A GREAT TIME FOR DEER.
SITKA IS ON BARANOF ISLAND THERE ARE LOTS OF BROWN BEAR....BE CAREFUL HAVE A BIG CALIBER GUN. ALOT BIGGER THAN YOU MIGHT USE FOR DEER USUALLY. I WILL BE ON CHICHAGOF ISLAND JUST NORTH OF YOU THE WEEK AFTER, HUNTING DEER AND BROWN BEAR WITH A FRIEND . NO BLACK BEAR ON ANY OF THE ABC ISLANDS.
SITKA IS A GREAT AREA LOTS OF SHRIMP , CRABS AND FISH. SHOULD BE TONS OF WATERFOWL. COUPLE GUYS I WORK WITH LIVE THERE OR WERE RAISED THERE THEY HUNT DEER EVERY YEAR DOWN THERE AND DO GREAT.
HAVE VERY GOOD RAIN GEAR. AND NO COTTON CLOTHES. CALF HIGH RUBBER BOOTS WOULD ALSO BE A GREAT IDEA. IT COULD RAIN ALOT A LITTLE FARTHER SOUTH WE GOT 4" RAIN / DAY. THAT IS WHEN THE BOAT OR CABIN WITH A HEATER IS WORTH IT'S WEIGHT IN GOLD.

GOOD LUCK PAT
