U.S. 1917 Enfield
The one that got away. In the gun shop today a fellow came in saying he needed money and wanted to know what a gun was worth. He opened a gun case and inside was a full military Winchester 1917 Enfield. I looked it over and it was NRA excellent. He said he bought a storage shed off a neighbor and when he picked it up, the rifle was inside. The shop owner offered $250 and the chap balked. I asked if he would take $300. He declined the offers and left the shop. I hate it when that happens. I sure hope he comes back. All the best...

Gil,
Let it go! I have a Remington, a Winchester and an Eddystone P-17 as I am sure you have. I would not go $300 for another "War Horse" that shoots Ball a foot high at 100 yards. Yes, a P-17 is nice to have, but I would not spend several hundred for one more piece in the back of the big vault. I would prefer a gun wot shoots to point of aim. Just how many P-17s does one guy need? Adam

It depends
As you know, they are not making any more U.S. 1917 Enfields and they are not getting any cheaper. I think it would be fun to retire and sell a gun a week as a hobby. All the best...

Gil,
LOL. Selling "a gun a week" may soon put you afoul of the GCA 1968 and may draw BATFE attention unless you possess a valid FFL. I hope you enjoy your retirement as much as I do mine. Adam

Selling your guns
Adam,
There is nothing improper or illegal about selling one's personal firearms. Have you ever looked at Auction Arms, GunsAmerica or GunBroker on line? Long guns can be legally sold to in-state residents that are not prohibitied persons. Handguns need to be routed through an FFL dealer just like long gun sales to out-of-state folks. Take care. Joe |

Joe,
I have read the GCA '68 and there are some vague terms that you may sort out with the help of your attorney and the BATFE. If you dump all your guns at once you may avoid the term, "In the business of selling firearms." As you probably know, being in the business requires an FFL and selling "a gun a week" seems to indicate being in the business. One more thing; How will a seller determine a prospective buyer is a "proper person" to buy a firearm? I would check out the legalities of selling guns before I distribute a "gun a week", please advise Gil. Adam
