I just bought a 410 for my kids... Im wondering if there is a good place to buy this ammo cheap. Or if there is a cheap way to get into reloading it. If you know of any, let me know... Thanks

410

Big Joe,

There is no such thing as cheap 410 ammo. The cheapest I have gotten in the last few years was some Estate shells for about 50 bucks for 10 boxes. Loading 410's is of course much cheaper...money wise.. but not cheaper work wise. 410's are a bear to load...and I load a bunch of them..but I have a very expensive loader to do it on. The best loader you can get to load 410's is a Mec 600 Jr. They will load about 200 shells an hour...after becoming used to the loader and the idiosyncrasies of it. You can sometimes find a good used one for 50 bucks or less. Isold my last for 40. I just got a fellow a half case of 3" 410 shells and they cost 85 bucks...terrible price....8.50 a box..horrible...and the darn thing is so hard to hit things with too. Luck man

Have you considered trading the .410 for a 20 gauge? If you don't take too bad a beating on the trade, you could make up the difference in ammo cost pretty quickly. Also, a 20 gauge, which tosses a lot more shot than a .410, is much better suited for beginners. The difference in recoil is fairly minor.

Sorry that this doesn't directly answer the question you posted, but I fear your efforts to find cheap .410 ammo are going to be hopeless.

410's

ATM is right about the difference in the 410 and 20..except for little kids the 20 ga in a single shot will have a LOT more recoil. I have two fofthem and they both kick pretty badly for little kids. If they are 10 or so they can usually handle it if they have the desire to shoot

We have been buying "Gun Club" and "Nobel" .410 and 28 ga. for $40 a flat. I saw them at both my reloading supply places for that, in 7 1/2's and 9's. Bettendorf, Ia. and Pekin, Il. I'm not sure how far to your nearest gun club/shooting range but I bet you local skeet shooters would know.
