Pope and Young statistics--where to find?
Besides going on the Pope and Young Website and paying for a book, where can I find some Pope and Young stats? I specifically want the state by state breakdown of whitetails....thanks all.

Pope and Young Entries
A total of 15,043 P&Y entries were mapped, including 43 states and 1,774 counties or 56 percent of the counties in the country. The distribution is similar to the B&C entries, although the pattern widens, including 757 additional counties. The top 10 states account for 11,206 or 74 percent of the entries and are identical to the top B&C states, except Kentucky is not included while Michigan is. Amazingly, the top four states (WI, IL, IA, OH) account for 50 percent of the entries. The counties and regions that produce B&C entries also tend to produce large numbers of P&Y entries. The pattern in these core areas darkens and expands, such as in Wisconsin and Illinois, where virtually all counties produce numerous entries. The P&Y map includes some interesting clustering in areas not included on the B&C map, such as the Atlantic Coast from Maryland to Connecticut, western New York, and southern Michigan. -taken from Remington's website

Here's a map of all the P&Y and B&C Entries over that same time period. Hope this helps.

Alot of folks dont realize just how big a deer a B&C or P&Y deer really is. We've killed two at our club that missed the minimum for non-typicals in the past ten years. One scored 172 and the other 167. They were both awesome deer!!! Lord only knows how many are killed in that class that go unrecorded everywhere. One of these days

I agree Trex, deer that size are a sight to behold, especially in the states that don't enter a lot of them

trex, I'm guessing that both of those deer were taken with a gun since P&Y minimum is 155 for nontypicals. There's a big difference between a P&Y class deer and a B&C. Most typical bucks, if allowed a few years to grow, will reach P&Y class (depending on nutrition available). On the other hand, very few come close to B&C. Nontypicals are a lot harder to come by, and anything in that range is an awesome animal. I'd just like to see a nice nontypical (OK, I'd really like to shoot one too).

Wisconsin
By the look of things I live in a one of the best states for deer hunting trophy bucks. But it also is a state with 100's of thousands of deer hunters. We kill more deer with cars than most states do by any method of take. A strong voice is quality deer management people, and the CWD in deer here is something that is very painful to have to live with now.
