Don't Threaten the Court in Idaho

Just got back from visiting my parents in SE Idaho. The local news is that some joker got convicted of something, and was given 5 years for it. When the sentence was announced, the guy threw a book, and hit the court recorder, told the Prosecutor that in 5 years, he'd be out, and come after him. Judge thought it over for a minute and said. "Just a minute. Let's make that 15."

GOOD judge!

And I hope he sends a letter for record to the state parole board detailing the threat, too.

That guy should just be shot. We don't need morons like that in society and he is bound to cause more trouble when he gets out. What an idiot. Too bad he couldn't be locked up for life.

I just love it when those kind of people screw themselves into the ground. I hope he has a wonderful fun filled vacation in the state penal system.

Sad thing is that our tax dollars keep people like that in prison until they are released again to cause more trouble. What is the solution for people like that.

Well with the shooting in Atlanta and other problems in the courts many times it boils down to the attorney for the Defense making a big deal of having their people come into the court room in hand cuffs ect.
So they dress them up nice and let them parade around like every other Joe citizen in the court.
This nut from Atlanta was on rape charges and should have been secured from the start.

Nulle,

I am sure the guy from Atlanta was charged with more than rape since he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend using what the press referred to as a machine gun. He then proceeded to rape her over 3 days and had even brought a cooler along in case he got hungry.

Of course, we have to go with the innocent until proven guilty theory just in case there was mistaken identity or something, which I am not arguing was the case here. I am sure they had the right guy with DNA testing available after the rape and the fact that the girlfriend knew exactly who he was.

The issue in Atlanta coupled with the "execution" of a Chicago federal judge's husband and mother will probably have a lot of judges on edge regarding their safety.

Could be as the only thing the press was saying in this area was that he was to appear on a rape charge.
That Innocent until proven guilty thing is a falicy in this real world and people accused of crimes of violance should be treated accordingly and not wandering around the court house.
Do you know if he was incarcerated at the time of this court hearing or was he out on bond ? If he was out on bond there is not alot that could have been prevented him from having free acess to the building.
We have had cases of incarcerated persons being able to change clothes and being uncuffed and that is pure stupid and it has come from Defense attorneys requests.

As I understand it, the guy from Atlanta was not out on bail. He was having his handcuffs removed when he overpowered the female deputy and took her gun from her. As far as I am concerned, this entire incident was the result of an idiot criminal and very poor security. At the jail for his new hearing today, they had 19 deputies to secure the area. Come on now, do they really need 19 deputies standing around.

I heard somewhere that female deputy was rather petite, like the guy outweighed her about 3 to 1. She should never have been assigned to escort him. A pretty high price was paid for that bit of political correctness.

I'm pretty fond of the "innocent until proven guilty" policy. Yes, it makes the prosecuter's job a little harder. That's the whole idea.

I'll even say that the accused should not be presented to the jury in shackles and prison garb because it is prejudicial. Instead, they should wear some kind of remote controlled stun device under their clothing. The escort, bailiff, judge, and maybe a few other folks in the immediate vicinity should be able to stun the guy with the push of a button if he misbehaves or tries to escape. It could also be designed to engage if it gets too far away from the remote control(s) so the prisoner can't get very far if he manages to sneak away.

MarkL,

That is a pretty good idea about the stun collar. Problem is that a bunch of attorneys will be arguing cruel and unusual punishment.

Nulle,

I always thought the system was in favor of the innocent, but when I found out that about 40 people were on death row in Illinois that were later proven to be innocent through the current marvels of DNA testing, I was astounded. It kills me to think that we executed a single person that was innocent. Then again, it kills me to hear that scum are out there killing LEO's, judges, and everyday people. Too bad people can't just wear a sign over their head telling everybody whether they are good or bad on any given day.
