HomeBrewed Targets
After a number of years of shooting at the assorted what-have-you I've come up with; I think I've struck opon the Right way to make cheap homemade targets.
Take a Sticky Pad and some black or bright colored tape - cut some of the tape into squares. Stick one square in the middle of each sheet of paper. Be careful to stick the squares on the paper in such a way as they appear to be diamonds. The bottom (or top if you prefer) of the diamond provides an exact point of aim. I find these targets superior, to the store bought stuff, for most of my informal applications. The sticky pad glue allows you to quickly stick the target to a box. (though it is best to use some masking tape to back it up, before shooting) Anyone else have a favored method for making field targets? |

Not sure what you mean by "field targets", but I used to do a lot of handgun shooting at the range. For targets, I used fan-fold computer paper that I got from work (printed on one side). On each page, I would stick a Post-It note using a glue-stick. At the range, I would unfold five targets as one long sheet and staple it up a lot quicker than stapling five individual targets.

I'm a building tech, so I have access to Autocad, and I have created targets from 8 1/2"x11 to 24"x36" in size. The little ones get used for the .22 and the .17HMR... I used the big 24"x36" to sight in new scopes etc.to make sure I am on paper.

Works for me. long ago, when Leupold came out with their sight in target, I found I shot everything, including iron sights, better on square targets than round ones.
I carry a few pads of flourescent "sticky" notes in the truck. Also index cards which show up on brown or green cardboard targets which I normally have around. Good idea! Riposte

MSWord has a draw feature with a customizable grid.
I used it to draw some circular, square, and diamond shaped targets and then drew lines to show the grid. It makes it easy to compute the size of your groups and you can custom taylor your targets to your particular sights. You can also use a text box and paste a photo in it for those "game" shots. Squirrels, and other small game can be made life size on a standard page. I use white construction paper and it leaves the same hole that target paper does. I haven't purchased targets in twenty years. They are easier to fit in my notebook of records too. ________ HAWAII MARIJUANA DISPENSARY Last edited by PaulS; 04-03-2011 at 04:38 PM. |

Turkey tragets
All I ever use for turkey targets to patten guns are a sheet out of the news paper and a can of spray paint. I just spray paint an upside down J in the middle of the sheet.

Want a real nice target for rimfire plinking? Find your local poker gurus. Buy their packs of old cards off them for .50 cents a pack. Wala. Instant 22 gratification.
