Deerman,
I lube my .58 Minies, .54 and .50 Maxis one at a time. I use my secret Hungarian Formula bullet lube in a margerine tub on the bench near my right hand. I take a bullet, one at a time, in my left hand held betwixt my left thumb and forefinger and "butter" the lube generously all about the projectile. I then place each projectile, lying down, in an Altoids tin and place a rubber band around each filled tin. I can get 10 .58 Minies and a dozen .54 Maxis in each tin that is handy to carry in my possibles bag. I am sure someone has a faster procedure, but muzzleloading is not about speed. Adam

GEEEZ ADAM YOUR NO FUN AT ALL. YOU DON'T HAVE A BELT FED MUZZLELOADER?
DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYTHING NOW A DAYS HAS TO BE DONE IN MILLISECONDS? I GUESS THATS ONE OF THE THINGS I LIKE ABOUT THE "SPORT". NOTHING FANCY, NO LAZER WHATSITS, NO EXTRA BATTERIES ETC. YA DON'T NEED A HAMBURGER HELPER RIFLE, JUST GOOD HUNTING SKILLS. I READ ON OTHER FORUMS ABOUT SHOOTING ELK AT XXXX YARDS. WHERE IS THE HUNTING IN THAT SCENARIO? WERE NOT TALKING HUNTING NOW, WE ARE TALKING SHOOTING. IF I COULDN'T HUNT? ANY BETTER THAN THAT I'D STICK THE GUN UP MY NOSE AND PULL THE TRIGGER. WE WERE ALL SITTING AROUND THE LOCAL GUN SHOP ONE FRIDAY AFTERNOON BS'ING ABOUT HUNTING AND I MADE A COMMENT ABOUT SOME SMART A$$ DEVELOPING A COMPUTER FIRED FIREARM AND WE ALL GIGGLED. SOB, DIDN'T SOME SMARTY PANTS DOWN IN TEXAS COME UP WITH ONE. NOW YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR HOME TO GO "HUNTING". WHAT A CROCK. JUST SEND YOUR MONEY AND YOU ARE A HUNTER. HOGWASH. THOSE GUYS COULDN'T FIND A SOUP BONE IN A GARBAGE CAN. I MIGHT NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT YOUR POSTS BUT I DO ENJOY THEM. KEEP 'EM COMING.

Billy D,
I loved your post, LOL. Actualy, I did have a flintlock with a "Full Auto" selector lever, BUT I never could ram down the loads fast enough to make it a "live" full auto. I dunno, just my dumb fault, I reckon. You are welcome here on my site and you have good stuff to pass around. Just pull up a log to sit on around the campfire and contribute whatever you feel needs input. Adam

Thanks Adam, sounds like a plan to me.I never thought of useing that kind of tin.As it turned out I had saved two boxes of the Buck Slayer boxes I had from last year and as luck would have it I made just enough to fill them up.

Hi Deerman ...
There are so many ways to lube bullets that it comes to personal preferance probably. I both size and lube with a Lyman Lubrisizer and RCBS dies. That is for bullets that I can size with that device. Others, using beeswax and crisco as an ingredient, i do by gloved (rubber) hand by spreading some of the substance in my palm and rubbing the bullets together between my palms. After they are all done, I take some paper towels and just wipe the nose and the tails and plop them in a box nose down. There is nothing more frustrating than to try to pull a bullet from a box by its nose... specially when you bite your nails... The other side of the equation there is that you can take a piece of cardboard, place upon the bullet bases, and turn over to have your bullets all standing in rows on the bench.... You do that till someone bangs into your bench and causing them to roll into the dirt ... but that is what learning is all about... Aloha.. |

Hi Rattus been a while.I found just diveing in and getting it all over me and the bullet worked great.I lke the crisco and beeswax idea.I'll try that.I used the commercial lubes the first time, but I thought ther had to be a better way.Ok cheaper way.

I guess I'm just slower than everybody else. I made a small wooden container with a plug for a lid and melted crisco into it. I then just put some lube on the bullet before I ram it. I'm a bit clumsy sometimes and so it always seem to get debris inside my bag leaf dirt pine needles etc... it just seems natural to do it they way I've been doing it.
I do like the altoid tin idea though my have to try that one.

Well, I'm sure there are better methods than the way I do it.
I dab some Bore Butter on the grooves of my Minie ball with my fingers , then put the Minie ball in some home made wooden loading blocks. The blocks hold 4 Minie balls (friction fit) , and when the ball is in the loading block, the grooves are inside the wood block, so they don't grease up everything, and pick up grit. The loading block has a recess on the bottom to fit over my rifle muzzle. Put the loading block on the muzzle, put the short starter against the nose of the bullet, give it a whack, and the bullet's started. When I go hunting, a full loading block goes in my pocket (I don't use a possibles bag, usually). At the range, I don't use the loading blocks, I just dab some Bore Butter on the bullet just before I load it.

I like that idea Jack could you get us a picture of it?I store my bullets in a Red Seal can,it's plastic and doesn't rattle..When I'm in the field I just use a reloader
