Kentucky Birds

A friend and I just got back from hunting the first 3 days of the KY season. We were hunting down around Dale Hollow.
We each got a really nice gobbler.
Mine was 19 lbs, 10" beard, 1" spurs
My friends was 23 lbs, 10 1/4" beard and 8" beard, 1 1/4" spurs.

We saw & heard very few birds. Both birds had large bare spot's where they had rubbed their feathers off of their breasts and both even had scabs on the bare spots. We assumed this was from breeding.
Could it be possible that the breeding season was already towards the end?
We only saw a couple of hens in 3 days of hunting.
The land owner (my wifes uncle) said he had been seeing and hearing lots of birds for the past month or so but in the last week he had not seen or heard many. The weather down there has been warm for well over a month.

I talked to a couple that had been hunting in the Eastern part of KY and they said the birds were quiet over there too.

Comments welcome.

The birds were quiet in Noerth Carolina also. all our birds chests were like yours. My buddy down there said they were gobbling like crazy the week before. We actually spooked one ole gobbler out of a tree at about ten thirty am.
