My First 270
I have acquired my first 'Yugo'. (270)
No, I didnt run out and buy one. I took it in on a bond that the guy couldnt come up with enough money to get out of jail. Granted, its not one of my favorite rifles or calibers, but I didnt allow him much for it either. Along with a Rem Auto 30-06 and a CVA inline Muzzy. I allowed $500 for all three combined. Too much? Its a Remington Pump model 760 or 7600, not sure of the model, Ill have to look again and its at the office. Its in almost perfect condition. Whats yalls take on these rifles. I know how Model 70 feels about the cartridge, but how about the gun? Is it worth keeping or should I find someone to give me the money that I allowed for it and let it roll? I thought if it will shoot halfway decent, it may be alright to keep around for a spare in case someone has bad luck during season or a friend from out of town needs a loaner. Whatchall think? Andy

I've never owned or fired a 760, or 7600, but I did research them pretty thoroughly a while back.
They have an enviable reputation for accuracy. They are said to be on a par with a good bolt action. The downside is that they are about a pound heavier than something like a BLR, which is also accurate, and also allows quick follow-up shots. When you operate the pump, you are pulling straight back, pushing the butt of the rifle into your shoulder. When you operate a lever action, you are pulling the butt down and away. So I think the pump action is probably more ergonomic than the lever.

Andy,
My grandfather used a Model 760 30-06 for years, and it was his favorite rifle (his bolt guns gathered a lot of dust). It shot extremely well (still does, although it hasn't seen much use since he passed away). I'd hang onto it if I were you. gd357

Yeah Dom, Ill get it in the mail to you.
 I kinda wish the guns were swapped. My dad had a Rem Auto 30-06 when I was growing up. I killed some deer with it as well. It was accurate, but not very reliable. You had a good chance of just having one shot. Sometimes the slide wouldnt go all the way forward after chambering a round or shooting and you would have to knock it forward with your hand. It didnt jam, but just wouldnt cock, for the lack of a better term. I didnt care much for that. I kinda wish the 270 was the auto and the 30-06 was the pump. I would probably keep the 06 for sure then. The muzzy looks good. May keep it as well. Andy

andy, i have always been a fan of the .270 and if you decide to let that one go let me know what you need for it i might be able to sneak a deal my wife wont know about. i'm in mo so that helps.
i have a son who will be hunting soon and a 270 would be nice as i can get him reduced loads now and full throttle it in a couple of years. i assume open sites on that critter.

I have both a 06 and a 270 my 06 is in the 7400 and i have had it for 20 years and love it my 270 is a bolt 700 bdl.
I had a 7600 pump and sold it becouse at the time i had 3 guns in the 06 the gun is real populer here in mich.
