my first ever double. coyotes.

tonight the moons must have been lined up.

drivn the water truck along i spot a coyote running away from me at what i thought was around 100yds. i literaly bail out of the water truck. with the 2506 trailing me. as im stepn out of the truck the bipod legs seem to be flipn down on theyre own.

i do a belly flop to the ground and get my bead on the running dog. as im about to sqeeze the trigger it stops and gives me a look. i then have time to settle on the boiler room. i squeeze a well placed site right where it counts. the loud thud and dust from its coat went puff. saw the impact and the dog fall over dead with no kick or wiggle.

as i get up to pace it off to the not so lucky dog i catch something moving coming down the hill. just a glimpe was all i needed to get me back down laying over the gun.

i get settled and look through the 14 power glass to where i last saw movement. nothing there. so i do alittle lookin around just to make sure because usualy when i think i saw something. means i did.

after doing alittle glassing i finaly spot it. another coyote headed my way. maybe 400yds. all thoughts of paceing off the first dog left my mind.

kept glassing the moving dog to make sure it was headed my way. i had slight breeze in the face so things were perfect. keep in mind things like this dont happen everyday. expecialy after takn a shot two minutes before.

finaly this dog gets within range i almost sqeeze of around as its moving. but i didnt and it starts realizeing somethings up and vers perpindicular to me stops a few times when i dont have a good shot and looks my way and keeps moving.

finaly its stop at what looks like 100yds. but because im laying on the bipods all i can see is its head. the 2506 cracked. and the dog dropped.

i swear the rifle called that shot. i must have been sqeezing the entire time i was trying to get a good bead on it. i wasnt ready to shoot but it was and she sure made a good call. hit him right in the kneck.

both eyes bulged out and the bullet didnt exit. you should have seen me shiming around and turning as the coyote was moving. itl definalty be night to remember.

the first coyote was a gimme. ended up pacn at 220yds. shot was broad side standing still. 2nd never shoulda happend. everything must have just been perfect. i was in the right place at the right time and made it count when it matterd most.

these coyotes were running around newborn calves so its good ive got atleast a few gone. and didnt train any tonight.

thats tonights happeings. maybe tomorrow. will be just as exsciteing.

Good shooten Evan, but don`t kill them all befor I can get out there again. What bullets are you useing in the .25-06? I like the 87 gn. Serria`s in my .257 AI, but they don`t oppen well past 200 yrds., dead on, but no big holes, just blow throughs.

Pretty soon our dopey little skinnys are going to start sitting out next to their holes. Sometimes you can get 2 or 3 at a time. Can't wait.

I shot a groundhog at abt. 20 yrds. with one of the 75 gn. Serrias in my .257AI. Believe it or not the bullet did not exit. Inside he look like you took a mixer and worked over his insides. It was just a mess of brown goo.

came across a badger this evening. shot was taken from 170yds. i was laying level with the badger as he was laying flat over his hole lookin at me with his head up..

. bullet entering in the cheast and when back through his boddy some where and didnt exit. he killed over instanly. there was no blood from the entrance wound. but insides felt and sounded like theyd gone through a meat grinder.

im realy startn to wonder about these 100gr core lokts. seems i should be getting exit wounds out of most varmits. with badgers being the exscepting because there so thick skinned and tough.

even the majority of the crows and the coyotes ive shot have all held the bullet inside exscept for the one cyote.

id almost be tempted to call this bullet a coyote pelt bullet. pass throoughs are rare and when it has exited its not blowing big holes.

any one else shooting any varmits.?????????

today was pretty good day. first trip out in the pete i missed a coyote at around 300yds. he was moving away from me in half run half trot. kinda cussedd myself for that.

3rd run out i spot a badger at guestimated 200yds. got the 2506 layed on the bipods. and watched it for awhile waitn for a shot. finnaly it gave me shoot and the 2506 did its job. i head of pacn to it, when i got to 200yds away i realize wow ive got quite alot further to go.

i get to the land mark i shot the badger at and it wasnt there. i start wondering if i missed. i didnt see this hit for some reason but ive come to know the sound it makes when the little 100gr bulllet strikes home. woooop.

so i look around some more still dont find it. then finaly i see my land mark but realize it wasnt it because i was shooting from higher elevation. farther i go. and finaly i find him. i shot him right in the armpit behindd the shoulder kinda low. theres where my 3"s of drop is at 300. pretty lucky i didnt miss. if id of held on his back or just below the back id of hit central mass in the shoulder. lucckly the the 2506 is kinda a flat shooter

this bullet did exit but with no dramitic wounds. just alittle blood comeing out of the exit wound. same 100gr core lokt. so finaly i have exit wound on badger with fairly stout bullet. havent been getn exit wounds at close ranges.

finaly get done messn with the badger and decide im going to go off to where i last saw the coyote i missed early today. theres a big messa with gradual bowl in the middle of it. i walked up there and spotted what i thought was coyote that walked above and out of my view.

i head up there thinking coyote but run into 3 antelope. hmmmmm they often look like coyotes from a distance. this thought didnt barely roll through my head when i see the coyote he was hanging out around the antelope.

they coyote sees me and is headed out the antelope dont mind to much. soon as he was out of view i run up to the top of the bute and look down into the bowl. bipod legs already down , im now at the top where i can lay down and glass hopefully getn a shot.

thats just what happend. id had him spotted even before i got layed down. as i was getn a bead on him he stopped and looked back. blasted him. it only turned out to be alittle less than 100yds

bullet didnt exit this coyote either. but did exit the badger at 300. hmmmmmmm

thats all for tonight.

ohh almost forgot. shot somewhere round 10 whislte pigs with the 10/22

I curtail my hunting until after the young are on their own. Shooting any animal that has young that will starv without mom is not in my book of Sportsmenship.
I am not putting down the hunters that do it just not my cup of tea so to speak.
