A "New" Possibles Bag.

I needed another possibles bag so I could set up one for flintlocks and the other for percussion. Naturally, a possibles bag needs to be made of leather for the authentic look. Last Saturday, I was on my way to the local shop to buy a new bag for about $40. It would do, but did not have internal pockets and compartments to better organize stuff. I stopped at a church yard sale and saw a table full of leather purses priced from $.50 to $1.00. One was in excellent shape with the internal zipper pockets to suit my needs. The lady sold me the purse for $.25, even though it was marked $.50. Yard sales are fine places to find lots of useful stuff for us buckskinners.

Sounds like quite a find. Guess I ought to start hitting them again. Not blackpowder related...but almost as important my last great find at them was an almost new 33 cup aluminum coffee pot for $3.00 holds all I'll ever drink in one sitting.

quigley,

WOW! After 33 cups of coffee, I would be afraid to leave the house. LOL.

Our town yard sale is this Saturday. I have found lots of items for re-enactments. I often find hats, coats and trousers that look like late Civil War Confederate issue. On occasion I dress like a Reb for a re-enactment "battle". We set up a camp at the local park on Labor Day so the candle holders, iron kettles and stuff like that goes well with the CW activities.

After paying a quarter for my possibles bag, the remainder of the $40 for a new bag went into shooting supplies for this season.

I'd like to hit your towns yard sales...sounds like the place to be. The rest of that money sure ought to get you plenty of supplies. What rifle are you shooting at the re-enactment?

quigley,

I shoot a repro M1853 3-band Enfield .577 in the muzzleloader event and an original M1884 Trapdoor rifle in the blackpowder cartridge event.

I shoot a Remington New Army M1858 .44 C&B in the handgun event. At the end of the day I have a few shooting irons to clean in camp for the benefit of onlookers touring our campground.

My friend used one of his wife's old purses as a possibles bag....worked fine, but he couldn't take my ribbin' him so he broke down and bought a possibles bag kit from Tandy leather....didn't have the heart to tell him that his new bag made him look like something out of "Queer eye for the straight guy" with all that excessive fringe, and maybe he ought to go back to his wifes purse!
