How stupid can people be

Watching the news is depressing and it leaves me wondering, just how many people out there are stupid.

I am sure all of you have heard about the guy that flew a single engine Cessna within 3 miles of the White House. I think he finally decided to turn away when he got close enough to see the White House, Capital, Mall, Washington Monument and other landmarks. What kills me is that two F-16 fighter pilots were flying around him and they actually shot 4 warning flares at him. I have been around Andrews Air Force base and a couple of Naval Aviation bases, and I can tell you that seeing a fighter plane in the air raises my attention level even though I know they do that sort of stuff routinely. While coming home from court in southern Maryland the other day, I happened to drive by Andrews Air Force base and noticed a single and two pairs of F-16's in the air. One pair flew right over me extremely low and completely banked in the midst of a turn. How can a pilot in the air miss these two planes flying around his Cessna?


The other stupid thing I saw on the news was a guy out in California trying to outrun the police. He crashed through a guardrail, but decided to keep on going. Finally, he was going too fast to manage a corner and almost killed a little girl and what I would assume was her father. At that point the perp was boxed in and he decided to start running with a gun in his hand. He didn't get very far before a bullet blew out the driver's side window of the car. In fact, he might have even been shot at that point, but I don't know for sure. Anyway, he fell down and the gun went flying on the asphalt. Now, after being shot and/or surrounded by a bunch of police officers and laying on the ground, a sane/intelligent person would normally stay still and wait for the paramedics and/or to be handcuffed. Not this guy, he went for a second gun he had and he was shot for sure this time and that pretty much put an end to him. I have no idea how a person could even possibly think that he could shoot his way through a bunch of police officers. Who knows, maybe he wanted to die.
