Here's another one

Went looking for the video of the high speed chase I mentioned in another thread and came across this article and video.

http://kcal9.com/topstories/topstori...129144847.html

Now, I have no idea how the driver of this vehicle lived with 60 shots fired at close range by law enforcement, especially since the perp had no weapon on him. What was incredible is that an officer was shot by another officer. Luckily, the bullet struck the officer's vest and he wasn't too badly harmed. 60+ shots and the perp was in stable condition at the hospital. Granted, he probably didn't deserve to die, but it makes me wonder about mandatory target practice and stricter standards for law enforcement shooting ability. With 60 shots fired at a perp with no weapon, I guess this came out as good as it could, nobody died.

Wow, they managed to shoot one of their own, shot up the vehicle, and a few houses (and the perp didn't even have a gun). Hmmmmm..... That's pretty much standard lately in police shootouts.

Few poeple realize how "bullet-proof" a car is. Almost no handgun rounds can penetrate into the passenger compartment. Even some rifle rounds (like the 223) have difficulty.

I remember a case at an Air Force Base where I used to work as the media spokesman. A civilian car got onto the base and somehow ended up driving around on the runway at high speed. (It turned out later the guy was simply lost and had no clue that wide concrete wasn't a highway!)

Anyway, the AF police went into terrorist mode and opened up on the car with their M-16s. Numerous shots hit the windshield right in line with the guy's head. And every round bounced right off, deflected by the angle of the glass. They did manage to shoot his tires out, but not a single bullet made it inside the car.

I don't recall that, TBO. It was more than 20 years ago.

I remember being grilled mercilessly by reporters about why the Security Police had fired at an "innocent civilian" who was, after all, only disoriented.

I replied with another question: "What would you be asking now if that car had rammed into a multi-million-dollar aircraft - or worse - and the police had NOT tried to stop him? And, how you recommend the police determine innocence or guilt before the fact?"

I would think that a .223, 9 mm, or .40 S&W would easily go through two panels of a car door. Next time my brothers get a destroyed door at their body shop, I'm going to run a couple tests since my brother has the .223 and .40 and I have the 9mm.
