**WTB**Brinkman Electric Smoker Element
Anyone have a thrashed Brinkman Electric Smoker with a functional heating element. I set 2 Salmon Filets in Brine overnight and went out this morning to fire up the smoker and my smoker is smoked! The element was cracked and it wasn't generating any heat. Can't readily find any repair parts around these parts so I hunted down a brand new smoker and bought it so I could get the job done. My "old" smoker is in excellent shape except for this element deal.
Little help?

Hey Treedoc,
Cabelas has em'- the electric coil heating elements (can't remember if it was Brinkman or not). I saw them in their last catalog and was considering buying one for my charcoal smoker because the cooking temp varies so greatly depending on the weather that it impacts the cooking process. I do not know as to how it would work in your particular smoker being that it is marketed to convert charcoal smokers into an electric model but it's worth a look if you cannot locate replacement parts from Brinkman. |

Steeeve....Stevereeeno....makin' the copies.......
Sorry guy, I just crack up thinking of that old SNL skit! Hey, thanks for the heads-up. I checked Cabela's and they don't list it on their web site but I did find it in my handy-dandy hardcover "Limited Edition" Cabela's catalog! Did you get one of those yet? Anyhoo, I found the electric converter and it will probably work, it's "almost" the same set up. Trouble is that it's more than half the cost of the brand new smoker! That's sort of why I was looking for a used version. I can actually buy the exact copy of what I need from Brinkman directly and it's about the same price as the Cabela's model too. I'll hold out for a while as I have a brand new unit now and was hoping to keep the older unit functioning for the big jobs when the Albacore hit the coast!

A Man Can Never Have Too Many Smokers
(or firearms or???!!!) I didn't recall the price being that high on those suckers.
I don't mind the SNL snickers either-I think that's where my friends got the ol "Steverino" tag line from anyhow. How do you like the electric smokers TreeDoc and have you used these as well as the charcoal varieties? I've been going through some different catalogs and have the "Mrs." onboard with procuring another model folowing the wedding- (she likes my culinary talents so she ain't complaining) I've been looking at both the electric and propane models. Cabelas has a nice electric set-up that I have been looking at. It would be nice to have something that provides that nice steady low heat-regardless of outside ambiant temps! |

I had a charcoal unit for a short time. It worked but to control temperature I had to babysit it more than I desired so I bought the electric version and that has worked pretty well too but again the temperature is a constant even if it's too hot. I think the propane would be the way to go, in fact I was thinking of getting a little burner and installing it in the hull of this new smoker and running it on propane. I can buy replacement burners at Wally World all day long so I should be able to configure something. I'll just need to install a temp gauge in the lid as the electric models don't have one like the charcoal units do.

If money isn't a great concern I'd suggest the Cook Shack smokers, my folks have one and it is fantastic. The only down-side, besides the price, is that they are a little small. My next smoker will definately be a Cook Shack. Look Herehttp://www.cookshackamerica.com/res_smokers.aspx . They are available thru either Cabella's or Bass Pro also.
