Now I want to know what happened behind the camera. What caused that vehicle to swerve off the road like that? Was there another deputy that was pulling in (i.e., where did the other deputy come from) or was she already in the stopped police car that was filming the incident?

That kind of video lends itself to a ton of questions. Here comes another law suit.

2 squads were parked with all emergency lighting on (they responded to the car in the ditch). Dim bulb driver of the truck decided not to move over to the left lane (as required by law) and in fact, hit the Trooper's car, then ran into the Deputy.

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you must stop on a highway (or even a road), GET OVER TO THE RIGHT as far as you can. If in bad visibility (night/fog), you might want to consider going the extra mile of extra mile of exiting and going as far right as you can. People are zombies behind the wheel. Lots of people get smashed/run over on the roadway.

Just saw on the news tonight that the deputy is just fine. Kind of amazing, but quite a relief. Seems as though the only thing he is suffering from is muscle spasm.

Sounds like they think his holster/pistol absorbed a big chunk of the initial impact. His holster is toast, but the pistol is in one piece. I think the other thing that saved him is he was knocked forward, not down (or he would have been run over by the idiot driver).

Amazing and glad he's ok. I think you're right TBO, he got knocked forward. Similar thing happened to my brother -- had car trouble, was standing in front of his car wayyyy off to the right half in the grass on an interstate (there was a shoulder to the right of the right lane also) -- car nailed his car direct from behind. He was sent flying thru the air and landed in the ditch, with his arms tore up because he had them in around the engine, but it's amazing he wasn't run over. He was just thrown forward thru the air. Waidmannsheil, Dom.
