i need a little help here

i have a fella that wants to sell a remington 22-250 varmint and the problem is he doesnt know what he wants for it ( anesthesia doc) he has enough money to burn wet mule and he buys the best so i believe the gun to be in great shape and shot less than 100 rounds - he bought it worked up a load and put it up - says he doesnt shoot it and wants someone to have it that will use it lol well that person would happen to be me in a big way - all i know about the gun is i know it has a 40x receiver and has a nice leupold on it - i will not price it for him so he told me around 1200 or 1500 exact words there- well first i have to make sure the scope comes with it and if it doesnt i have a scope to put on it but my question is -- what is a GOOD or fair price for the gun alone and for the gun and scope - i feel sure with his money its either a fixed 24 or 36 or a 6.5x20 leupold - either way i need to know what the gun itself is worth at a good price - if its terribly high then i would just as soon have one of the short tactical rifles like the 223 i have that shoots so well - i know the 40x is supposed to be great - never owned one but i sure would like to have this one but i dont want to go overboard just because of the receiver- he says it shoots great and is going to let me keep it for a few weeks and i can let him know - i will post exactly what it is when i get it but if someone can give me a rough idea about price and the 40x if its worth the extra - thats what i need to know thanks scoot

I like nice rifles and have 1 - 40X action rifle n my colection, but from what you have told me so far I would have no idea what it is worth. Without knowing if it is a Rem. barrel or a custom gum with a after market barrel and woses it is and which grade and which scope just pick a number from the blue. I will give $200 for any Leupold that he would put on a gun like that and how much more ??????????????? The gun without a scope I would say $400 min. but how much more ????????? For $1200 to 1500 it better be all the best. I think I gave $ 350 for my last 24X Leupold target scope at a gun show, used in excellant shape. I gave $400 for my last 40X action rifle, but it had a 24X Redfield scope on it, but that was several years back.
Sounds like top dollar to me, but it all depends on what you want and what your willing to give for it. I shoot 3 different .17 cal. ronds, 5 - different .22 cal. rounds, 2- different .25 cal. rounds, and a .204 in varmint rifles so I am intrested in accurate rifles only and I don`t really care what cal. they are. I also only use Leupold scopes as they are the only ones that I have never had trouble with, so the fact that it has a Leo on it is a big plus.
Sounds high, but I haven`t seen it so???????????

cat i appreciate the input and like i said i will post more when i get it but i am assuming-- from other docs that have seen it and what they have told me - it has factory - custom shop - barrel and one of the fellas said it has all the bells and whistles but i just dont know how many bells and whistles you can put on this gun without going all out - its black synthetic stock factory i assume and a heavy barrel - until i get it i just hate assuming lol - reason i ask all this - i have read a lot about the 40x actions and just thought they may be a gift from above and are hard to come by and really expensive and i have an idea on what a leo cost but like i said if its a real shooter then that will help the price more than the leo and 40x lol - to me 1200 is too high but then again i think about it being a one time expense and the thing dont use gas or cost anything just sitting there in the safe hehehe and you can look at it any ole time feel it clean it shoot it and best of all it will just keep going up in its price well thats the line i will feed wife if she sees a new gun come in - now if i dont post in a long time then you will know she found out how much i paid for it
