Oh, yeah. Hot little booger, but it never caught on. That's a shame.
I've seen the rifles offered for free if you bought two boxes of the ammo - for $85 a box. I've seen the ammo alone for $75 a box. There are a few shops that will convert the rifles to centerfire and chamber a wildcat .20-cal based on the Hornet (I thnk). Why do you ask?

HEY ROCKY YOU AREN'T THINKING OF THE 19CAL CALHOONS ARE YOU?
THERE ARE 3 19'S. 1. HORNET CASE 2. 30 CAL CARBINE CASE 3. 223 REM CASE I BEEN LOOKING REAL SERIOUSLY AT THE ONE OFF THE CARBINE CASE. NICE MELLOW ROUND, NOT A BARREL SCORCHER. THE GENTLEMAN THAT PRODUCES THEM IS FROM MONTANA. HAVRE I BELIEVE.

Billy,
I`ve never heard of anyone converting one of the 5mm`s to a .19 Calhoon. All you have to do to convert them to .20 cal. is have the bole changed to a centerfire bolt. I forget who is makeing the dies, but you form Hornet cases to the 5mm rem. chamber. With the converted rimfires you are also limited on your chamber presure as they do not have the lugs of a centerfie. It should make a great little varmint round, but would not shoot as far as the .19 Calhoon. The main reason for this round was to put some of the old 5mm rimfire rifles back in to use, and after going to the centerfire round you still cannot get much more from them than the old rimfire round do to presure concerns.

CATFISH, THANKS FOR THE INFO. WHEN I PUT IN THE CONFUSION SMILIE IT WAS MEANT FOR ME.
IS THE 19 A 5MM OR IS THE 20 A 5MM? I DON'T HAVE ANY DATA TO GO BY. I THINK I FOUND MY PROBLEM ON MEASUREING. WHEN I PULLED OUT MY HANDY DANDY DIME STORE MIC AND MEASURED .240 VERSUS .204. NEVER DRINK AND MEASURE AT THE SAME TIME. WERE YOU THE ONE WHO POSTED ABOUT TURKEYS THIS YEAR? THEY WERE NOT TALKING WHILE THE FLAVOR LASTED UP HERE. I THINK THE ONLY TURKEYS TALKING THIS YEAR WERE THE HUNTERS. EVEN PLAYED A GRETCHEN WILSON CD AND THEY STILL WOULDN'T TALK.LOL I ASSIST MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR WHO IS WHEEL CHAIR BOUND AND WE HAD NO LUCK AT ALL UNTILL THE LAST DAY OF THE SEASON. WE KNOW THERE WERE BIRDS THERE BUT THEY WOULD NOT TALK. HE ENDED UP WITH A NICE BIRD, 8 1/2" BEARD. WE WERE PRETTY PROUD. A COUPLE OF OLD BROKE DUDES HAD SOME SUCCESS. HAVE A GOOD ONE BUD.

Billy, the three .19-Cal hoons (isn't that a funny way to say that?) are different from the 5mm - which are .20-cals.
Not much difference there, I agree, but different. The .20s aren't hoons. Catfish is correct. The modification done to those 5mm Rimfire Magnum rifles is simply a way to keep the rifles in action. Since 5mm ammo is about gone and terrifically expensive, the only way to keep the guns from being wasted is to convert them to a nice mild centerfire. The .20 Hornet is just about perfect for that application. The .19 Badger - based on the .30 Carbine - is tempting, I agree.

Centerfire Conversion
Here is one website that offers the 5mm Conversion.
For $275.00 they will convert the bolt (you send only the bolt to them), the dies (1 sizer, 1 seater), an RCBS type shell plate, 100 preformed cases, and 100 30gr Berger 5mm bullets. You would think, with the price of the 5mm ammo (I looked they are 65-80 a box now and rare), someone would make a run of them. I have a 592 (tube fed) that has been sitting dormant for some time. I am considering the conversion because this thing was so fun to shoot. That, and I have never been able to leave well enough alone. David |

5mm Remington
I sold a few way back yonder and the people who bought them really did like them. The reason they discontinued the 5MM was because the round had a pressure problem and was blowing cases. Remington decided to quit loading the ammo and making the guns. That was one really nice round too. A lot better than the 22 Win Mag.
