K-Hornet reduced Load
Rocky,
What was your reduced load for the above, I can't remember and did not write it down. But it shot well and was very quiet, in comparison to full power loads. I have heard, from another site that reduced loads are VERY dangerous , should not be used and so on. I , at least have never had that problem, at least not yet. But the info on that site was anecdotal at best and no clear examples were cited. Thanks in advance GregH |

Greg, I had two reduced loads for the K-Hornet (or regular Hornet). Both are for 45 grain bullets and mild primers:
6.0 of Blue Dot/2050 fps -or- 3.5 of Bullseye/1600 fps. Reduced loads CAN be very dangerous in two circumstances. One, if you accidentally double-charge the case. That one should be obvious. Two, if you try much reduced loads of very slow rifle powders (such as 4831). That one is not well explained, but it DOES happen. Don't try to reduce slow rifle powders below published START loads. Be extremely careful with pistol powders in rifle or large handgun cases. Those two things should keep your body parts attached.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I think the reduced loads with high pressure low gas volume loads are very useful.
Thanks again Greg H |
