OK kids, time to ride home get in the trunk

What the hell is wrong with people today.

OK given that all the info in the report is true and the kids ACTUALLY DID ask to ride in the trunk. When I was a kid If I asked my mom or Dad if I could ride in the trunk of the car I would have gotten slapped in the head for saying something STUPID. Anyway my rambling will make more sense when you read this

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0608053trunk1.html

read pages 1 and 2 of the police report

Yes, people are idiots and they should be required to take a test to have children. I have the code listed below with the applicable penalty. What I love is the exception for police officers performing their duty. In essence, a police officer could fire a gun at a suspect in a crowded area and not have to worry about criminal repercussions if he killed somebody. On top of that, he would have to be found grossly negligent, instead of merely negligent like the rest of us, to be held civily responsible for his actions. Further, while offices have video cameras on the car, here in Maryland it is illegal to record a conversation without both parties consent and an officer will never give that consent. Trust me, I've tried on a couple of occassions to get consent to record the traffic stop and the officers pretty much became hostile.

At the end of the day, what this lady did is nowhere close to how I see people driving around here. They should be handing out reckless endangerment tickets to people weaving in and out of traffic during rush hour. At the end of the day, if her record is clean I hope a Judge will give her a PBJ with a ton of community service and a modest fine (i.e., not $15,000).

§ 3-204. Reckless endangerment

Prohibited

(a) A person may not recklessly:

(1) engage in conduct that creates a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury to another; or

(2) discharge a firearm from a motor vehicle in a manner that creates a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury to another.

Penalty

(b) A person who violates this section is guilty of the misdemeanor of reckless endangerment and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 5 years or a fine not exceeding $5,000 or both.

Exceptions

(c)(1) Subsection (a)(1) of this section does not apply to conduct involving:

(i) the use of a motor vehicle, as defined in § 11-135 of the Transportation Article; or

(ii) the manufacture, production, or sale of a product or commodity.

(2) Subsection (a)(2) of this section does not apply to:

(i) a law enforcement officer or security guard in the performance of an official duty; or

(ii) an individual acting in defense of a crime of violence as defined in § 5-101 of the Public Safety Article.
