help
while hunting in the snow my springer will start to get ice balls forming between his pads. any ideas how to get rid if this prob. i have thought about gettin' boots for him but they don't come cheap and my luck they would get pulled off and lost in field anyway. i shave him once a month to keep the fur short. it seems to hurt him after awhile ,he'll stop and chew on his feet, and it gets frustrating all of a sudden your mind is on the dog and hunting reaction is slower since you're not payin' attention. i have tried cooking spray and veg. oil.

I always used Pad-Kote all summer fer the dogs. It thickens the pads up and makes em hard as a brick bat..it helped alot fer my dogs in Michigan. It widened the pads on my Pointer's feet, and helped keep the ice out. Other than that, seems like boots would be yer best bet.

My Drents do the same thing, and I suspect all medium and long haired dogs.
Two things. Trim the hair a little. Second, apply some vaseline (or bag balm, if you don't mind the smell) to the problem areas. Snow won't stick, ice won't form, and everyone stays happy. HTH, Dutch.

bag balm , huh, i always keep that stuff around and i never even thought of that. i guess to much time in the cold weather caused a few to many brain freezes.
