is there a 222 rem barrel out there for contender
i know from looking there are not any 222 rem barrels new for sale and have only found a few used 10" for contender - i have found nothing for an encore at all - i just wondered if they have ever made a long (23 or 26") barrel for contender/encore for 222 remington - if so they sure are hard to find-- i know i can probably get someone like bullberry to make a barrel for me but the cost is ugly 350-400 from looking at other calibers they offer-- just wondering if someone has an answer here because i sure would like to give the 222 rem a try

Scooter, i`m sure TC never made a 23in bbl or longer in .222. i think 21 inches is the max for factory contender, if you search long enough you might find an after market bbl in that lenght. Is there something special about the .222 you like? There are quite a few .223 barrels floating around out to 26 inches in length.

hp to make a long story short - i have a 223 in encore and it does great and also in a remington lite tactical which does super great - this is great hobbie for me and i thought i wanted a 6br but until i can afford to have one made then i am going to settle for what was suggested - i wanted a 100 yard gun that will put a hurting on a dime and rocky suggested a 222 rem no recoil hehehe and great for that distance well they just arent around and i figured i could find a barrel for the contender or encore but i wanted something longer than a 10" -- the 21" i didnt know about but i will keep looking for that one - i did see where i can get one made but man they are high and if i got one and it doesnt shoot like i think it will well i sure would be dissappointed along with more missing from the fund for the new rifle lol - i probably should be satisfied with the calibers i have but since reading and all on the 222 well i just want to see what it will do another reason im looking - its going to be months before the next gun show locally and well a person could say i have an itch that i must scratch with this 222 thing so thats where i am at

Yes, i thought that might be what you were thinking, lol. The .222 is a great cartridge for accurracy. Wish i could help, used to have a few phone numbers of dealers who might have a used custom barrel but could`nt find them. A long barrel in .222 is gonna be tough to find. If i run across one i`ll let you know.

There have been a few come and go on places like ebay....they get top dollar for them (last one I saw went for $275) and they are factory. For my money for the extra fifty bucks from BB I get a Shilen barrel blank and a guarantee of accuracy. I have a BB .221 carbine length that makes 300 yd. prairie dogs shake in their little boots.

I have a 14 inch pistol barrel but it is not for sale. I have never sold a T/C barrel I did not have a Duplicate of and traded more of them than i sold.
The Carbine barrels are much harder to find than the pistol barrels as the carbine kits sold many less than pistols. Of course never place a pistol barrel on a carbine stock as that is illegal. Lots of times i had to buy a whole collection of barrels, frame and Optics to get the ones i wanted and traded off the rest. I have some old octagon barrels in weird calibers and special runs from t/c those seem to bring the collectors money. Sometimes you will see the .222 in the used section attached to a frame as the .223 is easier to feed cheaply. . I have also bought some that did not work out real well such as a 14 inch 45-70 barrel i could not get 5 inch 50 yard groups with. With the custom barrels you can get just what 1:7 1:9 1:12 1:14 twist, lenght/chamber you want and a accuracy of MOA or your money back plus shipping. Habits are hard to feed.

Scooterman, If you need a 100-150 yard carbine, you could be very happy indeed with ANY of: 22 Hornet, 218 Bee, 221 Fireball, 222 Rem or even oddities like the 219 Zipper. I happen to have all of those, but the only carbine is the Fireball.
I'm about to sell the 219 Zipper, but it isn't a carbine. It's a 14". The Hornet barrel re-chambered is actually a bad idea. The twist rate is only 1-16" in the Hornet, and that wouldn't work well at all for the 222 unless you were willing to stick to 40-45 grain bullets. For lots of Contender stuff, see my friend Mike Dykstra's website. Check soon (like TODAY), because he'll be at the Big Reno Show this weekend, and he always sells lots of barrels there. M&M Trading Post Edit to add: Mike has MUCH more than the few barrels shown on that site. CALL him.
