Angry Lilred's Rantin Again!!

Yessirs & yes ma'ams...I do understand that this here is my second rant in 1 week...but it got me so riled, that I bout spit all my grits out on the carpet the other mornin.
I seen a report on TV the other day bout them houses in Conn. ruled by the federal judge to be torn down...eminent domain they call it. In case ya'll aint see it...it seems that the government/city/state can take personal property fer "public use". Wether you like it er not. Now, some fool judge says that the city/state/federal government of this here U. S. of A. can now take it fer, to make a long story short, any reason that will increase the revenue and taxes in a city/town/state er whatever. So there they go, tearin down houses fer some dam condo development, and the land owner caint do nary a thing bout it.

What in the Good Lord's name is happenin? Now, you dont even own yer own property...and they said "oh, this dont mean we can take it, it just makes sure that no more of these cases go to the federal government..this here is our story & we're stickin to it." In other werds..iffin your state/county wants to take yer land...we aint liftin a finger to help you..too friggin bad.

Do preytell..what are they gonna do when there aint no more land left to take over? And the government can "offer" you .10 cents on the dollar fer yer land, and you have to take it?
I wonder iffin the governemnt is gonna foreclose on their own land? The dipsticks probaly will, and there goes yer state forests and wma's.
Think I'm bein a lil silly? Blowin it outta proportion maybe?
Tell that to that 89 yr old woman up yonder in Conn. that was born in that same house that they are kickin her outta. BTW, that wont no getto either..nice-lookin places they was.
I might do some diggin & writin a few emails and see what Virginia state law says bout the takin of private property round here.

It is certainly a sad state of affairs and like you I'm totally miffed about it. I just don't understand how this can be happening much less how they can let it happen to someone like that.

this past couple year i've been noticing that it's starting not to look like the land of the free.
omaha has been growin' so fast it's amazing how much land has been taken over. plus they are tryin' to annex suburban towns and take over other school districts , basicly i think just to raise taxes.

ABout a year or so ago this happened in okclhoma city, and sparked a huge fight.

The city ended up jumping the gun and confiscating a chunk of land, so that they could then turn around an d sell it to target for a supertarget shoppign center.

but they got their butt in a bind, because while they can exercise "emminent domain" they _can't_ do it, and then sell it.
It has to be used by the city/state, not sold to a private corporation.

it's in state courts now, but it's looking like the city has it's butt in a major bind over it.

amazing thing is, for something so sensitive, and affectign so many people, you actually have to dig and searchf ro info on it, cause the news media won't touch it with a ten foot pole...hmm....i wonder why that is?

With this ruling by the Supreme Court the government can take your land to sell it to a developer. After they give the developer the land they will probably give him a tax abatement to get the development and not get any taxes from him.

Sounds like it is time to have a Politician Party in DC. We all need to go to DC and throw the politicians and judges into the Potomic. The worst part is they have cleaned up the Potomic. 20 years ago you couldn't have survived a dip in the Potomic.

Multibeard,

You will probably still die from a dip in the Potomac, but not because of pollution. The Potomac has some great under currents that have drowned many a person. However, I agree with throwing the politicians and judges in the river. I cannot believe this decision; however, I have yet to actually sit down and read the entire thing. I might be even more pissed off after I read the actual opinion.

It's happening all over. County 2 years ago took property of landowners to build a water tank on.

Has been turmoil for a number of years to take the property of landowners along the river to build a scenic highway. Many of these folks inherited this land from their families. Many others scraped for years, and saved enough to buy a little retirement home because it is a nice place. The Nat'nl Park service has been given land for miles and miles along the river.

The cancer is growing... no end in sight. Luckily I'm old.

It's called creeping socialism, folks.

When a governemt (the State) can take private property to increase their tax rape, they'll soon have all the land, and you'll be paying 100% of everything you earn as taxes. Of course, they'll say it's for the good of everybody - especially the poor. Except that if they have all your money EVERYBODY is poor.

That's socialism.

It creeps in on silent little kiitten feet, and then the claws come out.

I heard something on the radio today on the way home that I hope comes to pass. There is a group of men who are seriously going to try to claim Imminent Domain on Justice Souter’s home. Their reason is that they plan to build a hotel,“The Lost Liberty Hotel". They say that the hotel will bring in more taxes than the Souter pays the county and will add many need jobs to the area. One can only hope.
