ammo registration
well california is at it again and it looks like it may pass ...
sb357 would require each bullet to have a laser engraved serial number on it among other things. 22 cal rimfire cases will have to be laser engraved as well but the most disturbing part is that after 2007 there will be CONFISCATION WITH NO COMPENSATION! you will be required to surrender unserialized ammo of face a felony charge. and, any semi-auto handgun will be required to have it's serial number laser engraved on the firing pin in order to transfer it to the primer of the fired round. just imagine the impact this will have. we are indeed approaching a "police" state ...

That is about the stupidest thing I have ever heard. If you have half a brain you can get around the entire thing. Has anybody heard of a file? How about replacing a firing pin or just grinding it down a little bit? On top of that, how is a long serial number going to be laser engraved on a firing pin without the best laser in the world?
Does this thing make any sense. If you are a criminal, you will just get rid of the serial number on the ammo or the guns.

Read between the lines, Fabs. That's the point, it can't be done so if it's law and no manufacturer can meet the requirement there will be NO GUNS allowed in California. The liberal scumbags get their way via the backdoor just as they always have!
I'm trying to decide if I should start a revolution in this state or just walk away from it. Walking sounds pretty good but I'll dwell on it for a while.

Everyone with a brain would agree that it only hurts lawfull gun owners.
The Badguys can just steal someones Laser engraved handgun&ammo. Or even get one from another state. Pluse what Fabs said. Just like they alwayes have done before. Quote:
Unfortunatly its the WHOLE point, as far as the Libs are concerned ![]()

Did some liberal hypercrit watch Judge dredd over and over again and then a dark cloud came over their head and a dastadly plan was hatched.

Smith and Wesson says I don't give a feck what they say. You want an inventory of them? Come catch some of them. I guarantee I can throw more lead than they can catch or carry. Reminds me of an old southern saying. I guess them liberals stole more lead than they could swim with. All of their crap came from the lowest bidder. Mine didn't. End of story.

What does Arnold have to say about all this ? Doesn't the Governor have veto power in California ? Are there enough legislators to override a veto ?
Are they going to guard the borders for bootleg ammo ? All this while there is a human wave walking in everyday right past them.

tree doc ... i'm with you. my wife and i are looking oustide of california for a place to call home.
you guys have to remember, california does have a horrible problem with gangs and illegal immigrants and our 'legislators' here are of the mindset that ALL must be penalized, not just the offenders. theebadone ... we have bill lockyer a horribly anti-gun state attorney general who's pushing the passage of this legislation. he also pushed the ill fated "ballistic fingerprinting". i believe it's an attempt to grab power by him and all the paranoid anti-gun liberal 'legislators' who want despartely to have 'iron fist' rule. yes if passed, i'm sure it will have devistating affect on the firearms industry within california as i understand the laser technology is very expensive. i think a manufacturer will just opt to cross california off it's customer list over tooling up to laser engrave each bullet or case. and it's correct the engraving can be defeated by a file, changing the firing pin, etc. however, that's not the point. the point is if you defeat it, it's a felony prison conviction. i'm not sure about schwarzenegger ... he did sign the ab50 (banning the .50 BMG rifle) and he's being hamstrung by a democrat liberal senate at every move. when he was installed as governor, the speaker of the house openly stated they would "test him by introducing much anti-gun legislation." california is in deep trouble as long as the liberals control the senate.

sorry about being so long-winded, but ...
incidently ... there are already reprecussions under way from the shooting community ... folsom gun club has sent a letter to bill lockyer announcing that Cal DOJ will no longer be allowed to use their range (folsom gun club's) facilities to train DOJ personel due to lockyers support of the sb357 and ab352 and i'm sure you all know about ron barrett's refusing to work on LAPD's .50 BMG rifle(s) as a result of their support of banning the .50 BMG . he told them "if you want them you'll have to come get them i will not work on an illegal firearm." i've heard that ammo dealers may refuse to sell ammo to law enforcment, too ... if the legislation passes ... we shall soon see ...

laser engraving
We had a mold for medical parts laser engraved recently, #'s 1-64, and a little information from the results. The numbers were put in less than 1/32 of an inch high, you can get maybe 6 on a fireing pin, round like a shell case. Problem is they are put in a burn dot at a time, the readability is not a smooth line. The 2 and the Z, S or a 5, 3 and 8 get tough to see even under 20 power glass. To increase the letter quality burning steel gets to be very hard, or you put it in less deep, we were only about .002 to make it plain in plastic. To expect it to imprint soft metal primer, I do not know the physics involved with an even imprint at time of fireing?
