Bore polishing product
Does anyone have any real experience with or have enough smithing knowledge to know anything about the David Tubbs Final Finish bore polishing system? It's the one where you run the abrasive coated bullets through the rifle in an attempt to get a final result similar to lapping a barrel? Thanks for any info.

HEY PARDNER
SEE THE THREAD "FIRE LAPPING QUESTION" BY DENTON. THERE ARE A FEW OPINIONS EXPRESSED THERE. I KNOW THERE ARE SOME BARREL MAKERS WHOSE WARRANTIES ARE VOIDED IF THE FINAL FINISH SYSTEM IS USED. LILJA BEING ONE OF THEM. I AM NO ACKLEY, ECHOLS OR SISK BUT I DO HAVE SOME SMITHING KNOWLEDGE. I WAS AN ARMOROR IN A FORMER LIFE.

I`ve never used David Tubbs, But I have tried fire lapping in afew barrels. Common sence tells us that fire lapping will put alot more wear on the barrel than just fireing a regular copper jacketed bullet so it will shorten the life of the barrel. That said, sometimes it does help and others it just wears out your barrel. It worked very well for me on 2 barrels. 1 was a new Dogulas I put on a .257 AI. The best I could get it to shoot was 3 to 3 1/2 in. groups at 100 yrds. I got it sub-moa by alittle. The other barrel that it worked for me in was a .17 Rem. barrel that was foulled with Molly and no amount of scrubbing could get the Molly out. I got that barrel back shooting abt. 1/2 moa. I have tried fire lapping on 4 or 5 other barrels and could tell no difference in group size. I would recomand that fire lapping be used as a last resort befor rebarrelling and action only. No gunsmith, but I do play with alot of guns.
