7mm Rem Mag vs. 7mm WSM
what are the advantages of the short mag compared to the ol' remmy?

Only that buying a new gun helps keep the gun and ammo makers in business, lol. The only real advantage is the wsm can be had in a short action, and is possibly more accurrate, and easier to hand load since it does`nt have the belt, but that`s debatable too.

The old belted mag will be easier to find ammo for. Theoretically the short action will be stiffer and inherently more accurate although the benefit may be negligable.
Otherwise, it's ballistically pretty much the same.

I have an older Remington 700BDL in 7mm Rem. Mag. The main advantages are that I've been shooting it long enough I have good accurate loads built up, and I know what to expect from it. Todays rifles, regardless of caliber, are a virtual nightmare, at least a crapshoot. Two pf my last three rifles have been a pain in the wazoo, having stocks and actions bedded, triggers adjusted, one returned to the factory, We just don't seem to make great rifles any longer. We've cut too many corners to keep the manufacturers prices low. I'm almost afraid to buy a new rifle today. Just one mans opinion. Best wishes.

Hi All,
Sorry I can see no advantage at all with the short mags Especially when you factor in the poorer quality of the newly made rifles from a lot of manufactuers The so called advatntage of the short action and bolt throw is all in the mind IMHO and is down to basic training in gun handling How ever it's your money spend as you will
