Leupold Wind River binos
Saw a pair for around $349-379. are these decent binos? I know Leuopold is a very reputable name and my #1 choice in rifle scopes.

they just have leupolds name on them, im not suire who makes them,
from what ive heard the 8x42s are very good binos for the money spent on them, i may take this route. http://www.riflescopes.com/departmen...binoculars.htm from what ive read the 8x42s are the cats mow when glassing in low light conditions when compared to the 10 powers. has to do with how our eyes take in the 4mm exit pupil comeing through the binocs the exit pupil is the tiny circle of light you see when holding the binocs at arm lenght that circular is the actual amount of light leaving the binocs to enter our eyes. the bigger the better. our eyes pupil is 4mm-7mm depending in light and other factors 8x42 glass has a 5.25 exit pupil, 8x32s a 4mm pupil, 10x42s 4.2mm, 8.5x45s 5.3mm the bigger the binocs exit pupil the easier it is on uour eyes while glassing more long periods of time. 8x50s are 6.25. dang near as big as our pupils. in low light. theres alot to it. but the 8x42s and similar kinda rule over the any 10 poer optics when binos are conciderded. atleast in low light. also
in the lower end bonos porro prism are the better to get over the roof prism models. the porro prism models are clear birghter and crisper than the roof prims models that arent phase corrected. but the roof prisms that are phaser correcte are more rugged than the porros and just as good opticaly. most all roof prism glasses more than 250 and up are phase corrected. these are what i want but i dont see it happening anytime soon. http://www.riflescopes.com/products/..._binocular.htm Last edited by Evan03; 08-29-2005 at 07:42 PM. |

I have a pair of the 8 x 42`s that I gave about 1/2 the price you named and love them. They are great hunting glass as they are fairly small and lite but still draw alot of lite at dawn and dusk. I don`t think you can get better glass without paying at least twice as much money. Mine have been rideing in my pick-up now for abt 2 years and I do beat them up. No problems yet.
