BWCA Bear Hunting -Need tips/help

Hello everyone,
Just came across this site and found it to be very informative. I would like to thank everyone in advance who donates his or her time helping me out.

In the beginning of September me and a couple other guys are going on our third annual bear hunt in the Bounder Water Canoe Area (BWCA) in northern Minnesota. We are all quite green to bear hunting so the last couple of years have been more educational than anything. The BWCA does not allow baiting so bringing them in on scent is what we’ve tried. What I am looking for is any advice anyone can give. Scent techniques, calling (have read previous posts), picking an area to set up at, anything and everything is welcome. Also, anyone up in northern Minnesota, around the BWCA that knows of any “hot” spots?

Thanks again,

Ryan

Can't really help with hot spots but
we can't bait here either. We've found
that the biggest thing is to cover
ground. A bear will
try to sit tight till you just about
step on it. Literally.
Dig em out of the thick crap adjacent
to food. Around here that usually means
swamps by a landfill.

Setting up in the afternoon is the
best time. During the day I wouldn't
bother setting on stand.
