Help needed for Pets

Hope this will be cool with Rocky and Petey, But these pets need help to. This Post was sent to me by e-mail from another forum. If you can help, please do so. Thanks.

Homes needed for Katrina pets

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"There is transportation provided, with people ready and waiting, for upwards of 200 dogs and 150 cats so far rescued from the devastation of hurricane Katrina. What these animals need is a place to go. Kennels, boarding, vets offices, shelters with any extra space, foster homes and rescues. Even one or two open kennels would greatly help.

From what we know, all animals have been vaccinated and are in good health considering the conditions. There are dogs and cats of every breed and size. Some are in groups of two, three or four, hailing from the same family, while some are solitary. ANY KENNEL SPACE AVAILABLE CAN CERTAINLY BE USED. These drivers are willing to move these animals ANYWHERE they need to go. Absolutely anywhere.

The current safe houses for these animals are being inundated and some of these pets will have to be euthanized if they are not moved to make room for the incoming animals.

Please feel free to pass on this information everywhere. Every forum, every list, every community.

REMEMBER THESE ANIMALS WILL BE TRANSPORTED TO YOU.

If you know anyone, anywhere, that is willing to take in even one cat or dog, please have them contact Lynda at the information provided below.

They are also asking for ANY kind of donations for the animals - money, food, bedding, water, etc.

Please Contact Lynda V. at: 203 515 3024 (cell)
Home: 203 227 5308
Email: Lynda@portone.com

Please contact at any time, day or night. These volunteers, rescuers and shelter workers are working around the clock"

As much as a despise the organization....this sounds like a good job for PETA.

Have they stood up to the plate to do something good yet in this disaster ? Instead of raising hell they could do some good for some unfortunate animals.

I did hear the Humane Society is trying.

I may be wrong, but as far as I know PETA is taking their usual approach, standing around doing nothing. The Humane Society does have a Web site up and running with information on how to adopt animals and how to donate for tha care needed for some of these animals. I seen yesterday where a bunch of them have already been shipped to Indianapolis and are being put up for adoption.

In the last three days we have had about 250 shipped in...160 were adopted immediately which is great...they have a quarentine period, not much is known about alot of these animals...did you guys see the peice about the Dolphins in Gulfport? 40 foot tidal surge washed them out of their tanks and they ended up all together back out in the ocean in front of the aquarium, battered and cut up, but all together and alive...I thought that was miraculous...

If you are going to donate to a humane society DO NOT donate to the HSUS. Give to your local HS at least they will use it to help these strays.

HSUS will take most of the donations and put them in their WAR Chest. Little or none of the moneys will go to help the animals. They will use it to fight to get YOUR rights to hunt eliminated.

The HSUS has recenty joined forces with the Fund For Animals one of the strongest humaniac organizations. The HSUS has put Michigans dove season on hold until a public vote can take place in Nov 2006.
