That is also a misleading pole because most gun people would either vote for the second or third option, this splitting the percentage against the first option.

I hate poles for that very reason. The stats always get scewed.

I'll be heading down to Florida in December and this new law doesn't bother me a single bit. Haven't had any run-ins with anybody the other times I have been down there and I doubt I will this time either.

I'll be going down there again at the end of January too.

fabs,

i felt the same way. the wording is to confuse the voter and is a dubious tactic. must have been written by a philadelphia lawyer.

florida has a very great percentage of it's poulus that has ccw and if you look at the pole results they are canted. either that or gun owners and carriers don't read that paper.

One of the things about Florida, is the major population centers, excepting Jacksonville and Tampa, tend to be liberal. Of course, thats where most of the gun crime is committed. Liberal constituants tend to select liberal States Attorneys. Being liberal, they are very anti average joe defending himself, and are more protective of the rights of criminals. These guys and gals prosecute folks who are attacked and have to shoot to save their lives.
So............ we got a law passed, that bypasses these buttheads, and protects Mr. Average Joe when he has to defend his life.

When I lived in Florida, they had a real problem with tourist crime. It seems all the rental cars back then were issued license plates with a "Z" prefix. It didn't take the criminals long to figure out that "Z" cars were an easy mark: lots of cash and no weapons.

They changed that license idea right quick.

Today, if you have a CCW from almost any other state, you can apply for and receive a temporary Florida CCW for your trip there. Now THAT is progress. The first time a tourist in a rental car pulled down on a bad guy, that whole scene changed pronto. Now the bad guys avoid tourists for the most part (or so I'm told).

This sounds like a good, common sense law to me. It won't hurt anybody but crooks - but that's exactly what liberals have against it, I suppose.

one visitor to Miami said "it's a little scary" learning about the new Florida gun law.
Excuse me, Scared Visitor. The article clearly said
Quote:
Florida has a new law that gives legal protection to someone who shoots somebody else as long as the shooter feels threatened or is attacked.
This person should only be scared if they are the attacker! Sorry but, I feel no sympathy for sheep.
If it makes this person feel better, they still do have the option to retreat. Just cause someone is a total pacifist, doesn't mean I should have to live by there standards.

Last weekend my mom had a a training class in Tampa. I went down to visit her. She always thought I was silly for carrying. She just didn't understand how crazy it is in a rough neighborhood. Because she grew up and lives in a rule upstate N.Y. town. When we were touring through Tampa, she gave me no grief what so ever about being armed. My mom is no fool.

Gregarat,

My wife's family is from right outside Tampa. Clearwater, Florida to be exact and I know exactly what you are talking about in downtown Tampa. Like most cities, the city has a good part and a bad part. I know exactly where those parts are in Baltimore and Washington, DC, but ain't too familiar with Tampa.

On another side note, my wife and her sister are University of Florida grads and they are pretty familiar with Gainesville. Her brother is in his second year there right now. Me, I've only driven by it on the way to Clearwater.

Nulle,

I sent Val a pm earlier today and was wondering the same thing because I haven't seen anything from her for a while now. I hope everything is okay with her.
