Still need BROWNIE recipies
I posted in outdoor cooking first, but so far nothing.
Here in Germany we (my wife and kids), have a brownie fettish, but cant find a real recipie for them. We like the moist chewy kind. My wife is making very valiant efforts, and we get very good choclate cake, not real brownies. Somone here must have grandmas oridinal recipies stashed away.

Here's an old (and I mean old) virginia recipe but I caint say how chewy they will turn out..you can always add more butter iffin you want em more chewy and less flour/bakin powder.
2/3 cup flour 1/2 teasp. bakin powder 1/4 teasp. salt 7 tablespoons butter (melted) 2 squares chocolate 2 eggs (beaten well) 1 teasp. vanilla Add butter to melted chocolate & stir em up good. Cream ( beat the sugar and eggs until it forms a thick cream.) the sugar & the eggs and then add the chocolate. Mix em well..then add the flour, salt & vanilla. Mix them real good. Use shortenin to grease your bakin pan and bake & 350. Let me know how you like em.

Okay Jon I can see you're in a desperate need for a chocolate fix. I'll pull out the Ol' Steele County Cook Book ... One of the reasons they put the Mayo Clinic in southern Minnesota!
1c Sugar 2 eggs, beaten 2 Squares Chocolate, melted 1c Flour 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 c chopped nuts, if desired 1/2 c shortening (butter is preferred) 1/2 c milk 1/4 tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla Cream shortening and sugar together; add beaten eggs, milk and the flour sifted with salt and baking powder. Add melted chocolate, vanilla and nuts. Pour into a greased 9x13 pan and bake at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes. Jon, Most often 2 squares of chocolate are referring to semi sweet bakers chocolate which come pre-wrapped in the box. In the weights and measures section of the book 1 square = 1 oz. If I'm not mistaken 1 oz = 32 grams The area has a heavy German/ Austrian/ Bohemian influence so its a good possibility many of the recipes may have originally started in Germany in some form. It's kind of ironic to be sending one back. If this one doesn't work, I've got 8 more and frosting recipes to go with. Nothing I've ever cooked out of this book has been bad or low calorie ! |

MILDOT
Even if this does work, by all means 8 more recipies(w/frosting recipies & tips) would find a happy place in our kitchen. Thanks for the square weight info. Looks like I have to raid the commissary tommorow Thanks, Jon
