Go figure

Well the season finally got here on the "Big Muddy" we opened on Saturday (the 29th) with all the fanfare of years past. Looks like "Dumb and Dumber" at the boat ramp. You'd think that they had never been on the water before, or launched a boat. I actually passed a boat twice going down river, I think they were lost or avoiding torpedos with all the zig-zagging.
Even with all that we got a Mallard and 2 teal on opening day. I was encouraged with all the ducks I saw and was looking forward to the next few days but alas family duties jumped up and I was unable to hunt again until Tuesday. On Tuesday we had the ramp all to ourselves and there was only one other hunter in another blind. Three of us limited by 9:30AM, 18 ducks, can you believe it. 65 degrees, no wind, no reason for a duck to even be flying but there they were. More mallards than I've shot all of last year in less than 3 hrs. More pintails than I have ever shot in our area total for 15 years.
Today my son and I got 7, 3 Mallards 3 Bluebills (scaup) and a teal. Once again record high temp and light winds. A little wind and we would have done better, the mallards today were a lot spookier/wary than yesterday but still just drop out of nowhere.
What fun...
I hope everyone gets at least 2 days like this this year.

2 days, thanks, but one day involving pintails and bluebills and i will be satisfied enough to stick to geese the rest of the year. nothing like the joys of opening day huh? some one once told me i was lucky to have the understanding of what hunting is that i have, i never really gave it much thought until a day i walked past a guy on the shore with sneakers, jeans and a flannel as well as a fishing pole to retreive birds. thankfully those types arent the types that go out much after the first day. man i would love a good strong wind to blow some scaup to me
still have two weeks over here to wait, back up a tree i go for now
