Lilred's Rant of the Week: Go huntin Lilred style...

I know this probaly aint an "anything goes" kinda thing..but it really is too broad fer whitetails I think. Ole Rocky can boot me in the butt iffin he deems it neccesary...

Ya know..I started this new job a few months back..and I told em.."The only thing I want is days off to hunt." Which was agreed to. Well...as usual..things wound up not lookin so good.
But I had em all planned out like a princess's weddin..2 days total fer our 2 week loader season...they wouldnt let me have 2 saturdays in a row off...so I had to pick tween the first day of gun and a doe day. WHY ME????
That's like tryin to pick tween a million dollars..one bein a cashiers check and the other cash! What a terrible thing to do to a huntin-starved girl. Plum pitiful aint it? Yep..I thought so too...

Well...I quit my whinin and picked the doe day...follered by the Fri after Thanksgivin and that Saturday.
So here I go..the first of the 2 days off fer loader. Sat in the woods that am..nothin but squirrels...and oh yeah..shots....them lucky bashturds was shootin everywhere...cept fer lil ole me..with a finger that wound up with a permanent crook in it from itchin to pull a trigger. So bout 1pm..I head back out. Nothin..till bout dark..and I heard a noise that sounded like a herd of elephants. A first I thought it was a man walkin..and lemme tell you..you aint heared nuthin nowheres like the sound of cuss werds bein whispered by a riled up red-head tryin to hunt thinkin there's a fool walkin up on ya. But then...I listened a lil better...that wont no man..nope.

So i took the crooked finger and put it on the trigger again. Now mind you..I was sittin on the ground on a hill...fairly open..but the wind was right...and I knew there was a chance of me gittin busted..but i figgered by the time their head was over the hill and through a small bunch of low saplins...it woulda been all over with anyways...so i was prepared..very prepared.

With the bead on that rise..I watched a turkey walk over....kinda bad shot..thick stuff..small saplins..he takes 2 more steps...BIG ole gobbler...long beard..yep..he'll eat.

The other bird popped his head up...an even bigger gobbler..I kid you not..he was a monster of a bird. He spotted me...couldnt quite tell what I was yet..but he knew..and then I knew..it was now er never. He started goin back over the hill...and when the other gobbler got in tween 2 saplins..I fired. Birds flew. I flew too. In a rage once I figgered out I missed!! Holy toleders..I missed. Wound up hittin a saplin branch the size of a pencil that jumped out in front of my bullet. May the saplin rest in peace..cause it got uprooted.

The next day i aint git to go...cause we had to go to Michigan! (Father-in-law sick) I was there fer 4 days..missed all my huntin.
And i have just learned that I will not have a babysitter fer my 2 day Thanksgivin hunt either.
I caint change my days I took off either. Not to mention that I wound up takin 3 extra days off to go up yonder.
So I am really in a mess..and all I ever hear is them dam shots that go off just fore dark....
Ya'll know that I'm a right sickly person..ya know...sudden flus..and other contagious things that you just caint go to work with..
So again...I shall rant on my luck and hopefully I'll get to hunt some more. Shoot...with all them saplins I mowed down..maybe I'll git a shot next time
PS By an old graveyard I been huntin near, a bear been tearin up the old cedars bout 6 feet up the trees..I'll take some pics..iffin I ever git back in the woods again...

Red face All I Can Offer Red...

Is to read my rant in the bowhunting forum from a couple of weeks ago with my bowhunting exploits and then read my post on the Lamont Review.

I'm a firm believer that good things happen (usually not in the timeframe that us impatient people would necessarily like) if you are persistant and keep plugging along doing the things that you can, that you know to be right. Everybody usually gets a bone tossed their way every once in awhile.

You'll find a way of gittin your gobbler hon. Don't despair!

lilred

we must be distant relatives when it comes to luck. but if you sit down and study it, most of the time it turns out pretty good.

too bad we don't live a little closer, i'd be glad to sit your youngin's. i was widowed with 5 kids so i know pretty much all about them. not too many surprises there. besides that i was a kid once myself...............a very long time ago.

but i'm still a kid at heart.

have a good one lady. every thing will work out in the end. you'll see.
