Heck if I know the best shot gun company, but I can tell ya I think HS shooting teams are a good thing.
But from the looks of it ya better spend more time in school and less time shooting. |

Why shouldn't a high school have a shooting team. As long as there is a coach and they are supervised, it should be fine. With that said, I wonder what it would cost to set up the ranges at all these schools so that the kids can practice. How about liability insurance? That would probably cost a pretty penny if the school system is not willing to self insure the activity.
As far as the pole goes, I'll cut you some slack. See if you can try to change the selections to "Yes" "No" and "I don't know."

Schools
The local college has finally approved the students shooting team here. The team has to keep the firearms in a safe and none of the students have access to them. The teams use our local trap range and skeet ranges for practice. Of course this is shotgun only but they have gotten a foot in the door. Surprisingly we have quite a few kids shooting. They can't afford too much shooting as they are college students...but we givve them cheaper rates and ammo as cheaply as possible. The teams are self supporting ie...no school funding but ya have to start somewhere. Also ...happily there are also about 6 young women trying it out. Not boyfriend things either. One gal is coming along nicely...the others are somewhat behing her but still trying.. It really is a good thing....for them and for the sport!!

By all means, a lot of these youngsters would love it. Besides,
these young gunners are the very future to sports shooting! Most of us are getting grayer...look around you at your next gun club meeting. Dan

I'm all for shooting teams and would volunteer to help if I could. I really don't know if the public school environment is the best place for it though. Too much red tape, with zero tolerence and all. If a participant would happen to forget his cased, locked firearm in his trunk and park in the school lot, he could get expelled.
Don't get me wrong, I think that shooting teams for youth are a great idea, I do think that there may be a better sponsor for the kids than the public school system though, such as private leagues or Sportsmen's Clubs. I help with the firearms safety instruction in my hometown and we do hold it in the school. We're fortunate because the administration allows us to use their facilities but all of that could go away in a hurry if the wrong person complained to the school board. It's perfectly legal, but it's not worth the hassle & headaches. A lot of the Firearms Safety classes are now being held at church basements, less government regulation and more common sense.

My Nephews Jr High school "Bendle schools" in Burton, started a Skeet team last year. There must be a few schools doing this as they went to the "nationals"last spring. There were a couple kids who did well but the team on whole just had a good time. Not bad though for a spankin` new team.
They just reformed this years team, they only shoot in the spring term, and even have a girl or two on it this time. My brother claims they even earn a school "letter" for it. As far as I`m concerned they should do something with the shooting sports in every school system.

Most definitely!
I would rather kid's learned fist hand what firearms are about. Its better than having the media teach them.
