8 pointer I got

I shot this 3 year old 8 point on Ft Hood this year.

He's the biggest deer I've ever shot.

I shot him with my Bowtech Liberty, from my doublebull matrix blind. 18 yard shot, and my heart was-a pounding!!!!!

18 yards? That's cool...I couldn't get within 18 yards of my house cat let alone a deer! I doubt I'll ever be able to bow hunt and will have to continue on poking holes from a distance with my rifle.

Good Job!

Thanks a lot guys.

He never knew I was even there, so that made it even more fun.

GM,

Congratulations on the deer. Is this your first antlered whitetail?

TD,

It takes a lot of patience to get the deer that close, but it is well worth it when everything works out. I shot my first antlered deer with a rifle, and my next two with a shotgun, but my heart wasn't beating anywhere near to what it was when I had 9 does around my tree stand while bow hunting. It was beating so hard that I thought the deer would hear it.

Not my first whitetail, but for sure the biggest.

He dressed at 103#.

It was 11-5-05 (gun season opener), and I decided to keep bowhunting. I went to my favorite spot on Hood. I've killed a buck every year, same day, for the past 3 seasons. However, instead of setting up in the tree where I normally go, I decided to set up my double bull matrix; to try to get a bit closer. I had every intention of gettimg me doe that day. I passed on 4 bucks and 10 doe that morning!!! Don't ask me why I didn't shoot any of those deer because I have no explanation.

Mind you, it was 86 degrees that day, and many of times I thought about packing it in and leaving. But I stayed.

At 4:32pm I noticed something at about 2o'clock (to my right!). At 4:37pm I saw that this guy had a very nice chocolate rack. My heart just leaped into my throat. I swear I thought he could hear my heart beating at that point.

I had 2 cedar trees blocking the shot, but at least he never knew I was there. At 4:47pm he stepped the 5 extra steps I needed to take him. I pulled my Bowtech Liberty, back sporting the 125 grain Magnus Stingers, and let the arrow fly. I can't remember for the life of me if I used the 10 yard pin or the 20 yard pin!!

TWACK!!!! Bone breaking good sound!!

After I got down on my knees and thanked God for blessing me with this hoss of a deer, I tracked him 25 yards away in a couple cedar bushes. 18 yard shot from the blind.

The Matrix I firmly believe got me that close. Not too mention my bow shoots very quiet.

BTW, to the young hunter (or oldie but goodie), patience pays off. I got in my blind exactly 13.5 hours before I shot him. I'm an all day hunter, so long butt-hurting hunting isn't new to me. All of the weather conditions (the heat) siad that deer should not have been there. He was there, and I could have never killed that deer from my living room couch.

I'm already praying for something a little bit bigger than him for next year.

He has a 15.5 inch spread, but I have not had him scored. I don't think he'll score much, but he's already on the wall.

Thanks for all the nice compliments fellas!!

Good luck to all.
