Need General OAL when reloading 230 gr 45 ACP FMJ bullets
Hi Everyone!, I have a question on reloading 230 gr Round nose full metal jacketed bullets for 45 ACP. Whats is the most common OAL measurement for this bullet? I have reloading data that suggests OAL's from 1.190 to 1.275 what is the best or most common OAL to use for the 230 gr FMJ Round nose bullets in 45 ACP? Thanks!

Hornady vol 1, 4th edition says, 1.245 for .45acp in general, however it's listing for the 230gr FMJ-RN says 1.250
it also states the same for the 230gr LRN. |

I`d make a dummy to 1.275" which is the SAAMI max lenght and with the barrel out of my pistol (assuming a auto loader) drop it in the chamber and see if it goes all the way in. The bullet shouldn`t hit the rifleing and fully enter the chamber, if not seat deeper and try once again. When you have it seated to a depth that allows it to fall in the chamber stop, load a few to check feeding/function and if OK load to that lenght. Coloring the bullet ogive with "magic marker will help tell if the bullet contacts the rifleing.
This is assuming the manufacture doesn`t offer a suggested COL for that specific bullet. If you can find, or get one from the maker, use it.
