Hi Rick,

My experience is extremely limited but I did help a friend get one ready for a moose hunt in Canada last year. Good news is that the moose went down with one shot at approximately 200-yards (as reported to me) and the guides were impressed.

The Rem 700 action had a custom 26-inch barrel with a muzzle brake and a thumbhole stock -- big & heavy! With the brake, recoil was no problem off the bench. A box of 20 cartridges, with premium bullets, set us back over $40. Better reload or be rich.

There are a lot of good 7mms out there and I predict the STW version won't last long. I'm with Evan03 -- get a 280.

The STW isn't a daily driver. It's a gas guzzling, supercharged corvette. Drive what you're comfortable with.

Mine runs about 3400fps with 140's. 3700+ with 120's. 1100 rounds and still under 3/4 MOA.

Why not just buy a 7 RUM?? I'm sure both are very compairable in stats, but I'm assuming easier and cheaper to buy factory ammo for the RUM (Only b/c it's a Remington factory round). The STW has been around for some time, even before the Ultra Mags were a twinkle in Remington's eyes. I suspect both will be here to stay for some time.

I don't own a STW, but I do own a 7 RUM and have been pleased with the results so far. Even being a stock gun, she's a good shooter (taking a deer out past 750 yards this year, plus several groundhogs at extreme distances) and a hard hitter. Confortable for me to shoot (Rem 700 LLS) and I'm only 5'6" and 150, if that

She's got a heck of a bark, and plenty of bite on the receiving end.

I'm getting around 3292 out of 168 grain Match Bullets. I know close to 3400 out of those 150gr Nosler BT's, using Retumbo. At 750 yards she still pumping out over 1000 ft-lbs of energy with the top load.

The stw is a favorite of mine. About the same recoil as the 300 win mag, but flatter shooting. They are a bit on the overbore side, so a good copper solvent is a must. I bought a 7 rum last year because i could`nt find a stainless stw. The rum is around 100 fps faster, but burns 10 more grains of powder to do it. I like the 7 rum, but can`t tell much difference in the two. If i were to pick, i guess the rum, bigger is better right? LOL.

Too bad Remington doesn't make the Sendero anymore. Those were a steal for the price.

May as well back down to the 7mm Rem. mag--get about same performance and cheaper price; sounds good to me.

The rifle laying crossways is my Weatherby Mark V Accumark chambered in 7mm STW. Only difference is now it sports a Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x40 Long Range scope. I'm lovin' that round and it's a great shooter! Currently I'm shooting a custom made cartridge made by a firm out here in California that builds with blended powders. It's pushing a Barnes XLC bullet at about 3400 fps and my "point blank range" is about 395 yards if I recall correctly. I'm in the process of handloading the Nosler Accubond for it now but haven't shot or chronied any of the numerous test loads.

When I bought it, I too was curious and concerned about availability of ammo (which is sort of mute since it came with 250 custom cartridges and I handload anyway) but was surprised to see the availability of cartridges built by many different manufacturers. To go against the RUM, out here the shelves have more bullet choices for the STW than RUM, your results might vary.

7mm Rem Mag, 7mm STW, 7mm RUM....they'll all get 'er done!

I bought my STW in a Savage 116 weather warrior, one of the last ones chambered for it. The following year they changed to the RUM. Then they dropped that to.
I went with the STW because I don't reload and had more ammo selection than the RUM.
That was 4 years ago and I still have more ammo choices than the RUM.
No it's not cheap to shoot but it fits a specific spot in the cabinet and in the stand. My STW shoots excellent groups with every load I've tried Federal's, Rem and Winchesters.
Standard go to load today is the Win. Super X 150 gr PP, holds inch groups without too much effort and it happens to be cheaper, about 24.00 a box.
I want to try the new Federal 160 Accubond next.
People claimed it would die some time ago, it's still going and they are making a nice variety of ammo for it.
No it's not a 30-06 (for variety) but it works for me.

I have owned ,loaded and shot both the 7 RUM and 7 STW both were very accurate and easy to shoot. I favor the RUM because it doesn't have belt on the case. Both have plent of power and are flat shooting but I am currently loving my .338 RUM with 210 TSX at 3376 fps.
