new nosler custom 280 ackley

if you go to nosler.com and click rifles they have their 06 caliber the 280 ackley.

they also have their new lightweight sporter in 270 wsm.

they really are not out of line for a custom rifle. i wish the wood stock version was a little lighter. it weighs in at 9 lbs.

06 nosler custom rifle

okay, i swore it was up and running. maybe not. however i did get an 06 nosler catalog with a bullet order and it had the 06 custom rifle in 280 ackley, for $3995.00 with leupold scope, made specifically for their nosler custom ammo with 140 gr accubonds. dead on hold out to 500 yards.

There was a article on it and a ad. The action is just a push feed cast lump to me.

The barrel is supposed to be top quality and the plastic stock is supposed to be "good".

The caliber is confired as the 280 Improved.

Nosler says that they will have brass for it.

I am not it the least interested even if it were $1000 and I understand it's a lot more than that.

Dead on hold on what?

With that bullet my 7mm WSM is 31" low at 500 yds.

scope

it sounds like a mil dot or boone and crocket reticle that is geared towards their 140 gr accubond loads. so if something deer size is 500 yards away, you hold the fourth for fifth dot down where you want it to hit and their you go. it is basically leupolds boone and crocket reticle system, slightly tweaked for noslers custom loads at a certain velocity, etc.
of course wind etc needs to come into play. i have had good luck with a similar system on a kahles scope with a tdsmith reticle. actually worked just fine out to 400 yards on deer sized game. never got to try any further, and probably would not take that shot any way. i would get closer or wait for another day.

Oh, ok.

That 280 AI might be a sleeper. I have always dreamed of a factory AI and I have three improved chambers but I have been there and done that with them.

If one were mainstream however it would be more interesting to me. For a while the 280 Rem. was the #1 chambering in custom rifles.

Today I am into lightweights and the 308 case would do it for me. On the other hand the 280 AI is a great excuse for another gun!

we can all send our leopolds to leupold and gets dots placed in our scopes set to our rifles load.

its one service through the leupold custom shop.

though id rather send my scope to premier reticle

if we all had 3grand we could build our dream rifle to our specs. even less.

the nosler rifle is nothing special.

the only good thing about the nosler rifle is the leupold dual dove tails cast into the reciver (ruger style)

speaking of rugers. i could by ruger rebarel to whatever i wanted whatever lenght and style barrel. the stock style i wanted plus the scope and be well under 3 grand and already testing my loads.

nice looking rifle, but my 'smith in Ocala Fl can build as good, and do it for a more reasonable amount.
