Trigger pull

I've got a factory stock Remington 700 in .300 Win. Mag. I've shot it for years and I like it a lot. But, I've made up my mind that I'd like to have the trigger adjusted.

I'm not sure what the pull is from the factory, I'd guess 7 lbs. or so ? Anyway, what pull would you suggest that I have it adjusted down to ?

MT, Most factory triggers can safely go down to around 2 lbs, which is where i like them, but that may be a bit light for some. I suggest to most that 3 lbs is about right for hunting, but more important than a light pull is a trigger that has no creep, and no overtravel. Good luck.

Most of my sporter rifles with adjustable triggers are set between 3 and 3 1/2 pounds pull. It depends what you prefer, are comfortable with and is safe. When in doubt, this is a job for a competent gunsmith. All the best...

If I buy a 700 or 70 Win the trigger gets adjusted to 2 3/4 to 3lbs before I even go to the range. On a field gun this is plenty light enough for my personal preference. It has made quite a difference in group size for me having a nice light pull, the anticipation of the gun going off on larger caliber rifles with heavy recoil keeps me away from the factory setting. Heck, 6-7# I start to wonder if the safety is on!

On a hunting rifle, I want a trigger pull of 3-4 pounds.
Frankly, if the pull is crisp enough, I can live with a higher pull.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm dropping it off at the gunsmith this afternoon, the number he recommended was also 3 lbs.

Yeah, three pounds should be good enough. I have a Ruger 77 MKII in .300 Win Mag and I installed a Timney trigger that I have adjusted to a little over 2 lbs with no creep. Essentially, when you pulled on the trigger the gun goes off.

I have allowed a couple of friends to shoot it, and always warn them that it has a light trigger, but they always look surprised when the gun goes off. In fact, I had one guy caught so far off guard that he took two steps backward after the gun went off and he weighs around 200 lbs.
