Tikka T-3 info if interrested
Howdy , I'm new today . For anyone interrested in Tikka accuracy in general , I have some observations . After looking back in the archives , I saw some folks asking about Tikka t-3 Light . I have the light stainless in 300 Win. Mag. It is very light , has very little felt re-coil with Limb Saver Pad . It was a step down for me , cause I have used 338 Win. Mag. for over 25 years . I was impressed with the claim of " less than inch out of the box accuracy " . Well , that was with factory ammo . I only reload so had a time achieving that claim .The first problem was , the mag. box is too short to seat the bullet close to the lands ,and the throat is deep . I didn't want to make it a single shot , so I was forced to to find a bullet fairly fat in front , the ojive , to gain some distance toward the lands . The Speer Grand Slam 180 gr. and Nosler 180 PPT,were my picks . After much toil , and many rounds wasted , I found the secret . Seat to all but touching the end of the mag. box , and with Nosler 180 PPT. , it shoots 3/8 to 1/2 " groups regularly , at 100 yards , with no hang-ups in mag. box . The only problem is , these bullets have low b/c . The other thing , I inquired to Berreta , what the action screw torqe should be , they said , just tighten them up . Well , I didn't like that . I have found that 35 inch lbs. works real fine . I shot my 33 rd elk with it this year , so I guess I can't complain too much . I am used to the Rem. 700 , and was begining to think I had made a big mistake . All that said , I think I will get used to it , cause it's too late in the game to change again .
